Definitely something to keep an eye on...wonder if the NHL would step in and nulify it as a cap circumvention issue. - Jsaquella
Wouldn't they have voided the Tim Thomas to the Isles deal then? Everyone knew that Thomas had no intention whatsoever of going to the Isles, but they still got his 5 mil cap hit to reach the floor without having to spend a dollar and Boston got the $$ off the books |

You expect consistency from the NHL?
They tend to enforce these things on a case by case basis. |

Yeah, but they body slammed the Devils over Kovalchuk and ignored all the other back divers. They're so inconsistent and the Flyers signed so many backdiving deals I could see the league sticking it too them. |

I want the kings to win but I still want it to go to game 7. The more games they play, the higher the cap ceiling is. |

They might not make such a big deal over us trading away a guy on LTIR anyways, as long as it doesn't turn out to be - a bidding war for his cap hit - situation. |

They could, though, because the Flyers need to be under the cap at the start of the season to maximize the LTIR bennies....also, the other team is blatantly circumventing the floor, which the PA might not like |

The more revenue the league gets, the higher the cap ceiling will be. They are saying that since it is 4 big market teams still playing the cap ceiling will be higher than the 69mil estimate.
Every 20mil earned is something like 400k in cap dollars. All the markets are worth like 2 and 3mil per game played. So every extra game played in like a 50k increase in the cap. Ill try to find a link to the article. |

Technically they can use LTIR $$ on the last day of the preseason.
Edit: and the flyers will call up as many people as possible to fit within the 4.9mil LTIR $$ and it will be just like having free cap space anyways. Just a pain in the ass to do it. |

I don't even care. The cap can be $6.73 for (frank)'s sake as long as the Rangers lose |

At the start of the season, they have to be under the cap, counting Pronger, to maximize his LTIR relief.
If they are over the cap by $300K at the start of the season, that is all the LTIR space they get from Pronger. That was the reason for the roster maneuvering last summer, when they waived Hall and kept Laughton. |

But if they are over the cap by a the full amount they will get the full allowance. So its just a situation of whichever is easier to work with. |

True, but they can also only have 23 players on the roster. Can't submit a 32 man roster |

They just can't be stupid about it. Don't trade Pronger to Florida without asking the league if they'd ok the deal. |
