If we get a couple of players for Coby ($5.5 mil), at about $1.5 mil, and don't resign Timonen ($6 mil), maybe we could sign Niskanen ($3-3.5 mil)?
That would leave:
MacD, Streit, Schenn, Grossman, Niskanen, and (Alt, Belov, or Ceci ?)
I realize that this is not the greatest D in the league, however, you have one stay at home guy paired with one mobile guy, and it has to be better than it was during the last few years.
Also, you have to get our lazy forwards to consistently play D on every shift. This D line up would allow more cap space, and flexibility with the pairings. Also, if a player starts to slump, then you can bring someone else up to shock them into better play, and allow the kids to develop a little longer.
Just some thoughts.
Thanks. - OrangeAndBlack1
The discussion ends right here. Try $5M - $6.5M.
Bottom line: trading Coburn only makes sense if you are upgrading his spot. I don't get how he's become the new Carle. |

Are you saying sign Niskanen for 3-3.5M? If so, might want to double that number.
And Coburn's cap hit is 4.5M, not 5.5M. |

Well, he's been auditioning for that gig for a few years now, so I can't imagine he'd have anything new to say in an interview. |

If Niskanen would sign for that he would be staying with the Penguins.

Really good suggestion... Schenn is at his deadliest taking one-timers or snappers from the high slot.
IMO, they aren't getting the most out of him by asking him to play net-front on the 2nd-unit. He can bang in loose pucks around the net w/ aplomb, but playing him from 20-30 ft out would be putting him in a better position to do more. - Tomahawk
he is? i must not be paying attention - seriously. it seems that the majority of schenn's goals are scored right in the crease - picking up the garbage. i'd love to see a hi-lite clip of all of his goals to see how they were scored. i just don't remember him doing much damage from anywhere else.
i would like to see him do more, and i'm all for getting hartnell off the top unit. yes, his bottom circle one timers are great, but he's not a consistent threat there because they just don't set up that way very much. it's all perimeter from giroux to kimo. |

Yeah, I went through his highlights on NHL.com (just search for his profile and under 'videos' they collect all his goals). A lot of garbage goals but also a bunch of lethal wristers. He's pretty good at getting at the puck during the scrums in front of the goalie. |

Was part of you secretly rooting for the Rags to complete the comeback last night and advance to the SCF with the Queen on the bench? I must admit that would have been amazing! |

It's weird, because last year I think they did it all in one day, or at least the first 2-3 rounds. It was on a weekend and started in the afternoon. Most of the time, it's on a week night and they only do round 1. |

Well here's hoping we mother hen our prospects. I'm afraid if they don't attach an arbitrary arrival date to each of them they be ruint.
Young man you will play two yrs, count them, two yrs in Jr after you're drafted then at least one full season in the AHL and that will make you a proper NHL player.
No no son, everyone does it. Just relax, sit back and read the Hockeybuzz thread and you'll see. All of those guys with time to kill know best.

Yeah, his shot is wicked.... it's a credit to him that he's able to be effective both from in-close and from distance. Bodes well for his future goal production.
Something we haven't seen yet at the NHL level is his slapper -- guy used to unleash Vinny bombs from the right-circle in Brandon. Hope we start seeing some of that, too.
