Yeah, his shot is wicked.... it's a credit to him that he's able to be effective both from in-close and from distance. Bodes well for his future goal production.

Something we haven't seen yet at the NHL level is his slapper -- guy used to unleash Vinny bombs from the right-circle in Brandon. Hope we start seeing some of that, too.

I think schenn has a nice shot. Id like to see him use it more often. It's one of the reasons id like to see him get a puck carrying winger

Would you trade Vinny L for Leino?

I've always thought he's had a real good finish

Yeah, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned putting him in place of Hartsy at the high-slot on the first unit before today... really seems like a no-brainer to me now.

I bet it was a lot of waiting around. Or do they broadcast the NHL feed on the jumbotron or something? I would imagine its quite boring between the actual picks.
- MBFlyerfan

you know, I thought that they would show the interviews and whatnot but they didn't. I took my nephew so we had fun but for some reason I thought it would be more fun. I am glad they did it all in one day. it seemed like half the place emptied out after the first round

Like Bill said, Hartnell's stronger on the boards and can work some of those pucks out to get it to Giroux/Jake/point man. Shooting doesn't help if you don't have the puck.

Back to the AHL for more seasoning/learning?

No?

It's weird, because last year I think they did it all in one day, or at least the first 2-3 rounds. It was on a weekend and started in the afternoon. Most of the time, it's on a week night and they only do round 1.
- jmatchett383

they did it all in one day because of the lockout. I was glad really. didn't want to travel back and forth and didn't want the expense of staying overnight.

Was part of you secretly rooting for the Rags to complete the comeback last night and advance to the SCF with the Queen on the bench? I must admit that would have been amazing!

Ok, I can see where Niskanen will cost a little more, but with the loss of Timonen, and Coby, I think it's worth the trade off. He can move the puck, he skates well, he shoots the puck well, and has size (not a giant though).
Moving to the forwards. I think that we need someone who can go to the net. I didn't see too many guys in front of the paint, and that is strange for a Flyers team. I like Moss. One, he is a winger. Two, he plays in both ends. Three, he goes to the net. How many centers do we need? Get rid of one of them for a strong winger. One who brings grit, maybe some speed, and be willing to shoot the puck. So many times last season when we couldn't score, the forwards seemed to fear the paint, and want to get too cute with passes.
Thanks again.

I'm not really gonna dissect this, but I am really against this entire post. Just my take.

Love the Schenn over Hartnell on the 1st PP. Wanted him replaced so much earlier same with Timonen. I also would not qualify McGinn. I don't see anything from him other than a 4th line guy

True... but I'd still sacrifice the marginal difference in board play for the marginal increase in shooting, though... especially with Simmer still being out there.

why wouldn't you keep a guy like that who can help the AHL team and get the call up when injuries hit the team?

If we get a couple of players for Coby ($5.5 mil), at about $1.5 mil, and don't resign Timonen ($6 mil), maybe we could sign Niskanen ($3-3.5 mil)?

That would leave:
MacD, Streit, Schenn, Grossman, Niskanen, and (Alt, Belov, or Ceci ?)

I realize that this is not the greatest D in the league, however, you have one stay at home guy paired with one mobile guy, and it has to be better than it was during the last few years.
Also, you have to get our lazy forwards to consistently play D on every shift. This D line up would allow more cap space, and flexibility with the pairings. Also, if a player starts to slump, then you can bring someone else up to shock them into better play, and allow the kids to develop a little longer.
Just some thoughts.
Thanks.

Niskanen is easily going to get over $6M per season in his next contract, and probably north of that.

I've had successful Saturday nights there in the 80's. I'd assume there's more trash there than ever.

Nope. As bad as VL is, he is still a good PP player. Leino is completely useless

Word on the street (unconfirmed) is that he's looking for $3M+ base.
- jmatchett383

I can see the Flyers giving him three years at $3 million, but there's no reason for them to do that anytime soon. They will need to determine Kimmo and Vinny's future here first.

You want another Hartnell or Simmonds? I think we need the exact opposite of them actually. An above average skater and shooter.

Simmonds is more lanky than bull strong. He can use his reach, but he doesn't have the upper body strength of Hartnell.

I'm not totally against the idea, but I'd stick with Hartnell for now.

Hartnell winning board battles might also help the second unit suck less.

Trade him to the 'Canes... maybe they'll be as into collecting McGinns as they are collecting Staals and Sutters.
