Last team in the world to make that mistake again. They are rumored to be looking to move one of Staal, Staal, or Skinner and figure a way to 86 Cam Ward. They are looking more and more like a team ready for full rebuild mode.
Ehlers, Virtanen, Kapanen, or Nylander has more value to them than Hoff and 2 seconds IMO. - dadeadhead

Bingo.
IMO the 2 seconds are an insult. They might be willing to move back a few spots but completely out of the 1st rd when you pick in the top 10 is a quick way to get the ax. Carolina has a new GM and looking to make his mark. Keeping the pick and drafting a guy with a big ceiling is a way to do that. Unless you can use the pick to trade for a superstar, you keep the pick. - dadeadhead
IMO Hoff goes to a team that is still a legitimate contender (MTL, ANA, LA) and we get an intriguing prospect along with a late 1st with us giving up a 2nd in the process |

I don't think I'd go that far. Skinner is great offensively, but it stops there. When he's not scoring he doesn't really help out his team all that much.
I'd love to have him as well though. |

Skinner would be a fantastic addition to this club for sure, but Carolina would never trade him here.
The Sabres simply don't have he ammunition to land a young & dynamic offensive dynamo like Jeff Skinner.
There isn't a single GM in the NHL who would give up Skinner for Myers.
There isn't a single GM in the NHL who would give up Skinner for Girgensons.
Would Carolina even give him up for Myers & Girgensons? I wouldn't. Myers is still overpaid & Girgensons is still unproven.
You'd probably have to give up the 2nd overall pick to land Skinner, and who here really wants to do that? I'll take my chances with Sam Bennett. |

Skinner's last 3 years:
2011-12 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 64 20 24 44 56 -8 -- -- -- -- --
2012-13 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 42 13 11 24 26 -21 -- -- -- -- --
2013-14 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 71 33 21 54 22 -14
1. Of course they'd consider moving him to improve, he's a great offensive player...but that basically makes him a canadian alex semin.
2. I seriously doubt that
3. Actually, I'd agree with that
4.They'd be pretty stupid not to accept that because even if they didn't want them, they could flip both Myers and Girgensons for someone pretty good (probably better two way player than skinner)
5. There isn't a single GM in the NHL who would give up the 2nd overall pick (even in a weak draft) for a winger who is only effective in 1/3 of the ice. |

That one year way back when.
I think he's got great talent, but I bet if he wasn't north american nobody would go near him with a 10 ft pole. |

Guys... Skinner is 22 years old.
If he would have played for the Sabres this yr, the only player on the roster younger than him would have been Girgensons.
And the kid is already a bonafide 30g scorer in this league!!!
This yr Skinner scored 33g in 71 games as a 22yrd old. He's only going to mature and continue to develop.
Skinner easily projects as a 30-40 goal scorer moving forward. And the Canes have him locked up good. |

You know who else was a bonafide goal scorer? Alex Semin.
I'll repeat it, When he's not scoring, he's not doing much of anything. 54 points doesn't make him worth 2nd overall and it certainly doesn't make him worth Girgensons and Myers. |

I'd trade girgensons because of his upside but not both of them.
I understand he's 22 and he's got great offensive talent, but that's the kind of player you go for after you've established the franchise guys, not the player you trade potential franchise players for. |

Either you guys are on crack or you need to give Darcy his rosé colored glasses back.
Skinner is far better than any forward on this Sabres roster.
And I don't even get the Semin comparison... Jeff Skinner is 22 years old and from Ontario Canada. Not Russia. He looks more like a young Phil Kessel to me. |

Better? Sure. Far better? I think you need to remove your trailer park boys bubbles glasses off and stop being short sighted on some of our players.
Skinner hasn't warranted anything to be placed on a pedestal, don't treat him like he's Jamie Benn or Rick Nash. |

you just proved my point right there, that's basically the only difference between the two of them. If Skinner wasn't Canadian most people would have the same "keep away" sign that they do with most euros. |

As soon as we trade for him, you guys would all want him gone for not being a better defender in his own zone....

NHL rookie of the year in 2010-11, when he scored 31 goals as a rookie?!!
20g in 60 games to follow that up his sophomore season.
13g in 42 games, in a shortened season.
And 33g in 71 games at age 22!!
What do you mean he hasn't done anything?!!
All he does is score goals at a 30g pace since his entire NHL career!!!
Do you think Brett Hulls grow on trees? |

Don't take my posts out of context. I said he hasn't done anything to be placed on a pedestal like you have.
He scores goals, and lots of em. I get it and I happen to like Skinner, but don't pretend like a 1 way player who hurts his team in his own end is worth the 2nd overall pick and that he's just that much better than every other forward we have.
You're treating him like he should be in the same class as Benn, Perry and Hall, which is ridiculous.
And I know you didn't just compare Skinner to Brett Hull |

Skinner is lightning in a bottle. He's Phil Kessel. He's Nate McKinnon.
My point is, goal scoring is the hardest "role" to fill on a hockey club. Back checkers and face off men are a dime a dozen. And certainly that is a huge part of Skinner's value.
And why shouldn't it be? Is Vanek not a great player just because he's gets lazy on defense?

1.....what?
2. Please tell me you're kidding? What you're telling me is it's tougher to find the Skinners of the world versus Drew Doughty, Joe Thornton or Patrice Bergeron?
3. And yes that's exactly what separates Vanek from great players |
