Eberle will score you 20 highlight reel goals a year, but may only score 30 total. - jmatchett383
i do see what you are saying about him as a player, and i am inclined to agree to an extent. he isnt a perfect player. but those numbers are much more realistic on the oilers.
im not a betting man, but if you put him on the pens, and the over under was 31, id bet every red cent i owned on the over. |

Lucic Wilson - Sms401
i dont know if there is one thing on ice that tom wilson can do that simmonds cannot do better.
yes. lucic is the douchiest of gold standards for this kind of player. but after that, simmonds is right there. |

Probably. But it's not like Taylor Hall is some grinder he's playing with. |

The same Tom Wilson who had 3 goals in 82 games while playing fewer minutes per game than Chris VandeVelde?
Not sure I'd call Wilson a true power forward yet. - Jsaquella
The same Wilson that knocked schenn into the year 2030. Yeah I get it he's young. I'm not knocking simmonds but other than in front of the net he's easily knock off the puck. Loses battles behind the net and along the boards consistantly and often peels off checks. Other times he's very aggressive. Like I said kinda like a hybrid |

No one's saying they definitely will/won't. Just my personal take. And I'm expecting them to play top-4 minutes, not top-2. - jmatchett383
I say top 2 because Streit is going to be our top pairing guy this season. Amac will be top 4. I think they should see if Schenn can play with Streit over Coburn. He played well with Kimmo in his first year but last year wasn't that great to start. I want to hope that he can play better than Coburn does, especially turnover wise. |

Aside from being better at scoring/passing, didn't Simmonds whoop his ass in the Emery brawl game? |

My issue with MacDonald is, I think you could have found similar level player for less money and or term. I might be wrong, but I think a guy like Stralman can do what AMac does, and probably comes in for less money & years. - Jsaquella
i like stralman, and i do ultimately think he gets less money than amac. but i think he is genuinely one of the more underrated guys in the league. amac on his own merits, to me is a pretty good second pairing guy, with versatility, who is signed pretty on par to a market deal. definitely not a bargain, but not really overpaid either. |

Streit is going to be a top pairing player, but that's more by default than anything. Coburn is the only guy who (to me) is a legit top pair guy, and that would be as a compliment to a #1 defenseman. I think AMac/Coburn would be better, personally, as I think AMac has a better defensive game than Streit.

for my money, you can keep your decade altering checks. simmonds is no slouch in that department either, but he is an absolute heavy motor player who bangs in the crease. those goals are so important. when you have your streaks in which the PP is cold and everyone is gripping the sticks too tight, a guy like him just bangs one in off of his face through sheer effort and bulldozing to the front of the net.
you want a power forward who is hard to knock off the puck? i hear some rangers fans are clamoring for his buyout. |

How does everyone feel about what should be done to the current blue-line this summer?
IMO, Nicklas Grossman must be traded if you want to sign what could be coined a "significant" free agent (i.e, someone we are paying roughly his salary or greater too in terms of a cap hit). The only other dman I would consider trading is Coburn, and it would have to be a deal that immediately makes the team better. As for signing Kimmo Timonen, if he wants more than 4 mill it's a no go for me. That's if he wants to play, and ideally I would try and get him closer to 3. I'd feel better about paying him 4 or even 4.5 mill if we do in fact trade Grossman.
You could also keep Grossman, not resign Kimmo, and allocate whatever available money left for a FA defensemen. That would be about all we do in FA though, as we would have little wiggle room to do much else. Your relying on filling other needs internally.
If we were to trade Coburn, we would almost have to sign a player like Anton Stralman, Ron Hainsey, or Kyle Quincey (for me, it's in that order and interest diminishes significantly after Stralman)
Personally, I want Grossman gone. You don't need him and Luke Schenn on the roster; Luke is a better player right now and he's younger. If you can get a roster player for him, great. If not, deal him for picks. Even if you have to eat some salary. My #1 FA target is Anton Stralman. Not sure exactly what he could realistically command in FA, but obviously nothing more than 4.5 million. I don't think you need an even 3-3 split in left and right handed dmen, but Schenn is our only righty right now. Stralman is a solid defensive player and is much more skilled than Grossman.
If we can sign him, I'm ok with not resigning Kimmo. I think if we can sign Stralman for between 3.5-4 mill, we could also find a way to keep Kimmo. I'm also assuming more than one big contract could be moved, as in Hartnell or Lecavlier in addition to Grossman. - mochoson
I like Grossman I think him on the third pairing would be best. If there is a cheaper option available, I'd go for that but he is a solid guy and I know he struggled from January and on but he is a strong defensive player. IMO I sign someone to play with him at a reasonable price, if Ghost plays his way on the team then we deal Grossman for capspace and call up Laurisden for the 7th Dman position. |

B. Schenn laid Kampfer on the Bruins out like 2 years ago. What a great power forward. |

One big hit does not make a power forward. If that's the criteria, Zac Rinaldo is a power forward.
Wilson was not an effective player for most of the season. |

That hit was clean. You're just mad that Craig Adams tried to run him and ended up on his rump. |
