Waaaah Paul Martin waaaaah.
That hit was clean. You're just mad that Craig Adams tried to run him and ended up on his rump. - jmatchett383
and come on. im not gonna say the pens are angels. but if there is one player on the team who is, its (frank)ing Paul Martin. |

Paul Martin is like Kimmo Timonen. He's just so not emotional out there and always seem calm and controlled, never gets upset or does anything out of anger.
I still say it was a clean hit. |

hey, im not saying youre crazy for having apprehensions.
my main point was that, to me at least, his deal and the vinny deal shouldnt really be lumped together. - stayinthefnnet
No, Lecavalier was an ooooh shiny deal...MacDonald actually filled a real need |

Vinny was a backup in case Schenn couldn't play 2C. Unfortunately, he could. At least sorta. |

True, but how many times are they gonna make long term investments in guys in case the young kids aren't ready yet?
EDIT I was fine with Vinny deal, but he was signed to fit Laviolette's system...then they 86'd Laviolette after 3 games...that's really bad foresight on somebody's part |

So the Flyers were able to put 4 defenseman out against top players for top minutes? One pairing had to be the pairing that played the most minutes against the top players on NYR. Please tell me which players those were.
Also, not sure why only ES TOI is being considered, as usually the other team's "top players" are playing when you're SH. - jmatchett383
Streit does not play on the PK. In the playoffs, Streit was 2nd among Flyers defenseman in ES time. He was 3rd in ES in the reg season, with MacDonald having a short sample size as a Flyers. Are you telling me that none of that ES icetime was against top players? The Rangers only have one line of top offensive players?
And I'm not only considering ES time. I'm considering all icetime. But the fact that Streit doesn't play much on the PK, cuts his overall icetime. Even without PK time, he was pretty much even with Timonen in the playoffs, behind Coburn and MacDonald in overall icetime, and was 3rd in the reg season.

That's a great hard clean hit. I believe he got cut in the stomach from Kampfer's skate on that play. Would love to see more of this from Schenn. |

I like macd but not for 5 mil/ 5years. And not as our 1 or 1adman unless it we have a stud like weber. I know that ain't happening but you get the point. - Sms401
5M is really nothing these days. And as the Cap grows, that number will get smaller and smaller. He's not a #1 d man. He's a solid 2nd pairing puck moving all around defenseman.

No offense but hartnells a wussy. Simmer isn't really that physical. He is a beast in front of the net but I don't consider him a true power forward. Maybe a hybrid power forward. Point taken though. ActuLly if you think about it we could use some true power forward ala Tom Wilson. Just another thing to add to the list - Sms401

How does everyone feel about what should be done to the current blue-line this summer?
IMO, Nicklas Grossman must be traded if you want to sign what could be coined a "significant" free agent (i.e, someone we are paying roughly his salary or greater too in terms of a cap hit). The only other dman I would consider trading is Coburn, and it would have to be a deal that immediately makes the team better. As for signing Kimmo Timonen, if he wants more than 4 mill it's a no go for me. That's if he wants to play, and ideally I would try and get him closer to 3. I'd feel better about paying him 4 or even 4.5 mill if we do in fact trade Grossman.
You could also keep Grossman, not resign Kimmo, and allocate whatever available money left for a FA defensemen. That would be about all we do in FA though, as we would have little wiggle room to do much else. Your relying on filling other needs internally.
If we were to trade Coburn, we would almost have to sign a player like Anton Stralman, Ron Hainsey, or Kyle Quincey (for me, it's in that order and interest diminishes significantly after Stralman)
Personally, I want Grossman gone. You don't need him and Luke Schenn on the roster; Luke is a better player right now and he's younger. If you can get a roster player for him, great. If not, deal him for picks. Even if you have to eat some salary. My #1 FA target is Anton Stralman. Not sure exactly what he could realistically command in FA, but obviously nothing more than 4.5 million. I don't think you need an even 3-3 split in left and right handed dmen, but Schenn is our only righty right now. Stralman is a solid defensive player and is much more skilled than Grossman.
If we can sign him, I'm ok with not resigning Kimmo. I think if we can sign Stralman for between 3.5-4 mill, we could also find a way to keep Kimmo. I'm also assuming more than one big contract could be moved, as in Hartnell or Lecavlier in addition to Grossman. - mochoson
I'm fine with moving Grossmann if another move is made to improve the team. I think getting Sralman for 3.5-4M is a pipe dream. He's going to command closer to MacDonald's deal on the open market.

amac is an above average second pair guy. thats what they cost nowadays though.
now, people can make the mistake they did with coburn with him and expect him to be something hes not. but thats their issue then, not his. - stayinthefnnet

You're right I forgot how tuff the big bad flyers are. Because you know teams are scared of us. Then they stand up to the bullies and they cower. No one fears this team anymore. Does this statement help my arguement. |

Until you figure in the fact we will have the highest paid d again this year and be exposed again if we make the playoffs. And we will be having this same conversation again in 12 months |
