Oh my.... We wanna trade Letang for Yakupov...... That is terrible..... Awful awful awful.... I'm all for exploring his value but Yak is an unproven work in progress. Pens need someone established for Letang. |

Awesome! trade away the best dman the Pens have for a flaky Russian! - sammy87
ONLY if the Yandle deal is also made. That is, I'm suggesting to deal:
Letang + Niskanen rights + Despres + Neal <-> Yandle + Yaks + 1st (3rd overall) + 2nd rnd
Niskanen is gone anyway, Despres isn't given opportunities to grow and still has value, Neal is a good shooter but bad at most other things, Letang is the big piece here.
However, Yandle and Letang are about even, Yaks vs Neal is questionable straight up but keep in mind that Yaks makes 4mil less and is much younger and more talented. Pairing him with Malkin could be what he needs to succeed.
Getting the 3rd overall +2nd rnd this year is also good for long-term planning and restocking the minors. The deal also saves about 6.5-7mil for the next few years, which is very much needed elsewhere and the team is likely no worse for it, and likely better off if that money is well spent in other places (heck we could make a run at Vanek, Callahan, Stastny or potentially both Vrbata and Jokinen!) |

Just re-sign Jokinen and Sutter and Sign Kulemin. Top 9 of Crosby, Kunitz, Dupuis, Malkin, Neal, Jokinen, Kulemin, Bennett and Sutter wouldn't be so bad. |

I wanna play armchair GM too!
If Lemieux would just give me the job I would be looking to do the following.
first dump scederi ofcourse.
Second the players Im looking to get are Byfuglien and Kesler. My chips to do so are Neal and Letang. Buff and Kesler are both big, mean and can take over a game. Physical game breakers are what we lack.
Neal + prospect for Kesler
Letang for Buff
Resign Sutter 8 for 32 (4 mil cap hit) I don't care what Bartley says he looked good in the playoffs, hes 23 and a few more pounds and years he is a Kesler type player.
Get a Bully for the 4th line who can play somewhat Shawn Thornton if he his UFA.
Sign Dan Boyle 5 mil per try for 3 years- yeah hes old but he can skate and he's a winner to teach our up and coming dmen prospects
Resign Goc @ 1.5
Kunitz(3.75) - Crosby(8.7) - Dupuis(3.75)
Kesler(5) - Malkin(8.7) - Buff(5.2)
Bennett(.900) - Sutter(4) - ???
Thornton(1.2) - Goc(1.5) - Gibbons(.550)
Martin(5) - Maata(.900)
Boyle(5) - Pouliot or other prospect (.900)
Depres(.900) - Bortuzzo(.600)
Fleury(5) - Zatkoff(.600)
Comes in at about 64 million leaving us 7 millions to sign a third liner Ott or Moulson at 3 - 3.5 Mil per and 4 mil to line Marios pockets.
Check that powerplay!

I dont know why you all dont give gibbons a lil credit....that dude can play...2 goals in 2 minutes in one game.....and many a good short handed chances, the only bad part is obviously his size but look at marty st louis.
any ways this article is not about the subject we all really wanna hear about......any roomers on the g.m. situation....im tired of getting on here year after year to read about why the pens blew another playoff series. i wanna hear about how we are gonna change it.
p.s. dont tell me not to get on then......i have to read this page daily.....i almost love it as much as crack |

As a pens fan, I hope their fourth line next yr is gibbons-goc-megna - Kunit
if that's our 4th line, we are in trouble.
could you honestly imagine that line versus boston or chicago or la's 4th line?
Gibbons does not belong in the NHL. |

Dont get all the hate for gibbons either.
Was great killing penalties, fast, always pressuring pointmen. Had a shortie against Columbus and almost another against the rangers where Sutter ended up burying it.
Also created a lot of powerplays for us with his speed getting breakaways against tired opposing D.
"Oh but he's too small."
I'd take his speed and smarts over Glass' size and thoughness any day. |

Also, I think Letang-Martin was a great pair. Put them together starting the season and they can only get better. Just gotta pray Letang stays healty.
I just think we should pursue a veteran d-man to play with maatta since our chances of re-signing nisnaken are pretty slim.
Give Despres another shot on the third pair with Bortuzzo or another prospect and I think we can build from there.
What we can't have is another year of the likes of glass, adams, pyatt on the bottom 6. |

Yeah ur right, gibbons doesnt belong in the nhl. He only had 2 or 3 more goals than crosby these playoffs. Oh and thats with playin with people like glass adams. He is pretty much faster than anyone in the nhl. Yeah but ur right, he doesnt belong in the nhl. People like u r the reason the rest of the nhl is moving on and we are still sittin around lookin for gritty sand paper players with lots of heart.
Can u score a goal with ur heart? I think not. |

okay, so based on your logic lets cut crosby and make brian fricking gibbons the captain.
good call genius.
he can be fast all he wants, but guess what, when you can get knocked off the puck easier than college kids, your speed isnt as important.
what exactly is the NHL moving on to that we are missing out on? I see 4 remaining teams which all have numerous players that have grit and lots of heart.
but by all means, lets put gibbons and jayson fricking megna on the 4th line. they'll look great against 4th lines like Thornton-Campbell-Pallie. They will never score, hit, win a battle, or do anything... but hey, they're fast. what more could you want.

So at the end of his contract a 41 year old Dan Boyle will be making $5 million and the other deals you proposed would make the Penguins older as well. Not only that but you are also adding a prospect to get Kesler. |
