Thornton to the Wings sounds about right. They love crusty old veterans... |

Joe should go to Edmonton or Florida. A couple teams that would be psyched to make the playoffs. Thornton will get you there for sure. Cant promise much more than that - SJFreez19
I love the idea of Joe Thornton on the Oilers...not sure what the cost would be though, nor do I think he would waive. #3 Pick pick as a starting point I assume? |

Not sure what Thornton has to offer that Z at Datsyuk don't. 3 top line centers is nice unless they are all in their mid 30s and taking minutes away from our budding young players.
I also don't think Thornton would help the Wings get over any particular hump besides a 24th straight trip to the post season, especially considering what would have to be given up to land him. Pass - JohnnySoze
They have plenty of C depth...I would think they want a Defender. |

Wrong. - Jeropotato
Thornton had 3 points in 7 playoff games, not what you'd expect from a seven million dollar center. I don't think he had a point in the last four games? |

If you only want to talk point production then you have a case, but I'm basing my opinion on a published work, by someone who was in the room, and very candidly spoke out about Marleau's aloofness and piss poor leadership. He spoke very highly of Joe, however. |

Marleau is a quiet guy, not a leader, but who cares? He's a player and still has great wheels. Joe Thornton is still a very good player and will continue to be, that said, if they're looking for change I could see them trading him as they have Pavelski and Couture as their 1/2 centers. |

Think someone has been smoking too much reefer. Thornton to Det? For what? Sharks want to get younger and with Datsyuk and Zetterbergs age Detroit can not afford to trade those young guys away for another player who has a couple of years left in the league.
Callahan heading North? There are no teams south of Florida so that basically says anywhere but Tampa and Florida unless North is code for Canada. |

I think Edmonton would be a good spot. But would he want to even be in Edmonton is the question. |

100% Bubba. He won't. Plus Edmonton is thin on assets, we could put together a package that would make San Jose happy....but we would basically be left with Taylor Hall and Joe Thornton. |

On Thornton...
This one surprised me, but I know Joe Thornton grew up following both the Leafs and the Wings, but I am hearing the Red Wings may make a play for big Joe. So far, they are the only team I have heard, but we will see. - Eklund
Yes, that makes all the difference in the world when a GM is considering acquiring a player via trade or free agency |

I'm sure Patty would be real excited to waive his NMC for Panthers or Islanders....2 Stanley cup contenders - flipneil
Being a "contender" doesn't guarantee anything.. just ask the Sharks.
Last I looked they had as many cups as the Islanders and Panthers in the last 20 years. Hell.. the Panthers have one more Finals appearance then the sharks in that time.

After seeing the defeat on Joes face in game 6 when they were down by just 1 goal, I know he isn't a winner. A winner will be screaming and watching the game getting amped up. Joe had a depressed stare and was looking directly across the ice not watching play, not saying anything to anyone.
Patty is not the single guy that will take a team over the top but if the right guy was there then Patty follows and does well.
So for me I hope Joe goes and Patty stays. |

I could see that. Perhaps neither are the "carry my team to victory" type. Joe as a 2C behind someone like Toews would be fine. The pressure (not to mention top checking assignments) won't be on him. |

Yes because two players with NMC, who just signed extensions, are going to waive them.
Joe Thornton got unjustly run from Boston and hates media attention, so you can rule out Toronto and Detroit. Why would Marleau want to leave the only team he's ever played for while they are still a top team in the West?
The Sharks roster isn't getting blown up. This is a team that only Detroit is ahead of in consecutive playoff appearances so blowing up the roster isn't going to solve anything except how to destroy a franchise.
This team needs Cup experience added to it, players from Cup winning teams who can inject something into the locker room come mid-April and beyond. It doesn't need to be torn apart, nor does it need that win-nothing goaltender Ryan Miller, who took a Cup contender to the golf course when Elliot and Halak were just fine in St Louis. |
