What about Thornton in Philly? Not sure what kind of offer they'd have to entice the Sharks, but giving Giroux a center like Thornton to work with could be something special. Not to mention Giroux already has the C and is a clear leader on that team, as well as Vinny's veteran leadership. With that said, Joe could easily just step in and be himself with the Flyers. - sjsharks92

Re-tooling is the word people seem to like to use. Doug Wilson has already come out and said, we may have to "take 1 step backward to take 2 steps forward".

But wouldn't Joe end up just being "the Man" in Toronto anyway? Sounds like the situation he would want to avoid. - Jeropotato
He would help them get past the Boston Bruins (1st/2nd Rd). I'm sure he would love to stick it to the team that drafted him. |

That's the other thing Doug Wilson has harped on. Handing the reins of this team over to the younger guys, and giving Pavs, Couture, and Vlasic bigger leadership roles. |

I don't know what tampa would offer I'd think maybe bret Connolly and a pick but I don't think yzerman would have interest in Patrick or joe. We need grinders and defenseman. |

Go on....?
Thornton is a 34 year old man who's never proven poop when it counts. How would the 1st pick overall which could be your next franchise player not be a fair trade for 2-3 more years of Thornton playing anywhere near his contract? The only reason I say Florida is that they want to do something right now and have enough young prospects to afford to pass up on this years 1st.
Same with Marleau....the guy is getting older, picking up a solid top 4 shutdown Dman would be a perfect scenario for Shark fans IMO...I'd be happy as all hell if the Ducks picked him up. |

And for the Senators. Patrick Marleau doesn't fall into our needs, and we only have two top-4 defensemen. |

SJ isn't moving Thornton or Marleau. Both were just resigned for reasonable cap hits, 6.75 & 6.6 respectively for 3 years & at their current rates of offensive production that's good value.
Yes their aging but any decline in production will be nominal in the next few seasons.
Wilson has essentially said what will happen. Boyle will be allowed to leave, Havlat will be bought out & Burns will be moved back to defense.
That will give give SJ approxiamately 16 million to fill out their roster. Not counting Havlat SJ has 10 forwards signed that will play in SJ next season. Sheppard & Wingels will both be resigned for reasonable cap hits, getting them to 12.
The Defense is set. 6 are signed counting Burns. Demers is an RFA & will be signed again for a reasonable cap hit. Tennyson is ready to start getting his feet wet so that gives SJ 8 Dman.
SJ will look to add 1 UFA forward in or around the 5 million mark o replace Havlat.
SJ s--t the bed against LA as we all know but they lost to what may be the best playoff built team in the NHL.
I could see them potentially making a goalie change. Time will tell.
Ek's just being EK. Posting far fetched comments to stimulate hits. Hits are $. Simple as that. |

still dont see how the moves you outline change anything regarding the SJS ability to come out of the western conference then. you dont think something more significant has to change? forget LAK, ANA and CHI are still beasts to overcome as well. |

I'm the opposite. I think Patty is more the issue, and I say that based mostly around what JR and Boyle have had to say. I know JR is a kook, but based on Patty's body language, he does seem to lack the passion and fire it takes to win in the playoffs. - sjsharks92
I remember JR and then a was it 2 seasons later when he said he found his heart?? KOOK
What did Boyle say I must have missed that as I never heard much from Boyle about any of the other players. |

|
|
Panthers only spend money on 3rd and 4th line players. Won't be in the running for any trades or UFA that have 30 goal potential. |

Ask Setogutchi about the being traded right after signing a deal.... A player that is asked to be moved to waive their no movement clause usually won't stay in place, who would want to play for someone that doesn't want you there?
And please I want a different goalie. Nemo's numbers are ok...just something about him I don't like. Kinda something like not stealing games. |

He's a Kook, but I do believe he was on to something with Marleau.
Boyle never explicitly said anything about Marleau. However, he was quoted as saying, "I'm not the problem, I'm part of the solution". Could be reading too far into it, but I think he may be referring to Marleau. I've read a few different rumors suggesting he spoke at length with Doug Wilson about Marleau's demeanor on/off the ice.

I do agree with that. I think Niemi's a great goalie for a 3.8 mil cap hit. However, he hasn't stolen a game for us in quite some time and is by no means a better goalie in the playoffs like we thought he could be after he decimated us with Chicago. I would not be at all opposed to a change in net. |

Jumbo-playoff-no-show-Joe in the Motor city? Sorry, I don't buy it and you shouldn't be selling it. Detroit's last 20+ seasons are loaded with playoff finishers, not guys who get finished off in the playoffs. See 2010 & 2014 as prime examples of failure.
Now Marleau as a second line guy, that's doable. Wonder if Willie wants a King's ransom for him. |

Don't think Thornton fits in with Detroit either, but he'd be a great addition to that squad if they needed a center. He may not have a reputation for being a "playoff finisher" but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to elevate his game if he was not "the guy" in Detroit. Playing behind guys like Z and Dats would be great for Joe. |

Holland is not trading for Jumbo, period.
We need a top 2 RH D and a scoring winger, not an aging (cursed) center. |
