I've stated several times to not be surprised if they take Ekblad. That said, I don't want to see them waste assets to move up one spot. Plus if they move Myers in the deal they had better be getting more back than the top pick. I mean #2 and Myers for #1 is a huge overpayment. - dadeadhead
I've also felt all along that they would take whichever of Ekblad or Reinhart that Florida didn't take. I doubt Florida ends up moving the #1 overall pick. The headline is recycled every year: "[Insert Team Here] shops #1 pick, doesn't end up moving it." They want a king's ransom for it (as they should), but nobody's willing to give it, especially not this year. |

If they draft Ekblad, I think you'd see them try to move Ehrhoff before Myers, simply because of age.
The real window for Murray's re-build, won't start to crack open for another 2 years.
Myers probably fits a little better into that long-term window, due to his youth. |

Baptiste, Fasching and Armia...not bad for 3-4 years down the road on RW. Who is going to feed them the puck is one question that will be fun to watch unfold. - LandlordTom
I agree with your coment on Garths thread about tm stockpiling picks for 2015. However, I believe Murray's aggressive nature may tempt him to make that trade, especially since we already have 2 additional firsts next year. |

I was under the impression the involvement of myers would be to acquire #1 on it's own and have the #1 and #2 pick. Otherwise you're right it would be a massive overpayment.

I still think that would be a mistake.
You have a 24 year old 6'8 offensive defensemen that at worst is rounding out to be a real good 2-3 guy (which obviously I think he can be a good #1) locked up for 5 years.
Why move him to draft an unknown at the same position ? |

Obviously a lot goes into a players success in the NHL, but you're telling me a potential 1st overall pick can't do ONE stinking pull up? That concerns me. Ekblad or the other Sam please.

On the flip side you could say that Bennett has dominated juniors without a fully developed body, and that there is room to grow and fill out |

It would be something like a 2nd rounder and Myers for the #1 pick.....or St. Louis's 1st rounder next year and Myers for #1 pick, that said, I don't agree with it. |

Exactly , we have gone through the pain of his development . Now that he seems to have come of age . We are going to trade him and have to start all over ? Seems sort of silly .

I think you'd more likely see the Sabres trade #2 overall & the STL pick... For FLA's 1st overall selection.

IMO it is silly and won't happen. If they trade Myers it's going to be for a forward that is around 21-22 and also has game breaking potential. |

First off welcome, really enjoyed reading the blogs you put up. I really like what Tim Murray had done lately with the two signings. Draft day should be interesting for sure. |

I can't imagine Florida making a move where they trade #1 to Buffalo and don't get #2. |

Still an overpayment . Only way that makes sense is if Murray and Company think the number 1 player is that far ahead of other top prospects . And that does not seem to be the case in this draft class.

If TM is looking at Ekblad? Than Myers might be trade bait this summer? Like I said, it should be an interesting time down at the Plaza - finally!

Ekblad/Myers
Ehrhoff/Pysyk
Zadorov/Risto
McCabe/Webber
Honestly... That'd be a pretty solid looking defensive corps for the foreseeable future.
Kinda like the STL model.
And it'd be nice to not have to worry about defense for the next 10 years. Even Webber has value in toughness, leadership, & exp, as a 7/8 d-man.
Maybe then, in 2 years you trade Ehrhoff to make room for McCabe/Zadorov? |

Oh , you are going with the Nashville model . Since it has been so successful there. Also Ekbald will not just waltz into the NHL at 18 and be a top pairing defenseman. |

The difference is, though, if the Sabres do draft Ekblad, they can get the elite scorer in the draft next year. I doubt the Sabres refuse to address scoring, even if it's by the accident of having a high pick again next year. |

I doubt Myers. Look for one of Zadorov or Risto to be traded if we draft Ekblad. EKblad is the onyl NHL ready prospect. Neither of the Sams should be here next year, they need more time in junior |

I don't think Tim Murray is averse to trading any one of the aforementioned. He doesn't really seem to be attached to anybody on this roster. If Myers will land him a guy he really wants, then he's going to trade him. The same goes for Ehrhoff, Ristolainen, Zadorov, etc. |

Why not get top level forwards in 2014 and 2015 drafts as Tim Murray has stated this pick will go back to Junior . Is that against any rules ? We are loaded on defensive prospects. If Ekbald was that much better than all other top picks , yes you draft him . But he is not. |

I see no need to waste assets to move up 1 spot. Also Harrington is a hack. - dadeadhead
it made no mention of our 2nd overall pick. |
