They actually reported on the NHL? I'm shocked! I figured they would be too busy telling us what LeBron had for breakfast or his views on the situation in the Ukraine.
We've got a LA/NY SCF but hey ESPN please give us more coverage of the NBA and James opinions on stuff we don't give a poop about. - acdc1206
Get Canadian Television (for sports anyway). You wont hear any other sport until the 20-25 min mark into SC. ALL HOCKEY ALL THE TIME BABY (sometimes it gets a little overboard with the analysis) |

Haha, by report I mean they had it roll on the scrolling line on the bottom. They didn't say anything. |

I just refuse to believe they would be so stupid to hire PM as GM. Perhaps Pens brass just talking to him to get opinions on players, GM search, etc...? He does have a history with Mario.
Or perhaps a position with the team in some other capacity. Scouting, player dev, etc...?

I think the Semin and Ward contracts have more to do with it. - 87_71_11_29
Semin's contract is terrible. Four more years at 7 million
Ward is a candidate to be bought out.
Staal at 6 million for the next 9 years and he failed at his expanded role? I'd say that is looking worse and worse.

Jim Rutherford is in the running for the Pittsburgh Penguins' general manager job.
Rutherford was the long-time general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, but he recently stepped down from that post. NBC Sports' Pierre McGuire also told TSN 1050 that he has been in discussions with the Penguins' management. "

Yeah even when Shero offered him the 10yr/60mill contract I was like "Hmm, that's a lot...".
I watched every Carolina game the strike year and thought Staal actually played well and was even dominant at times. This past year, he was on and off. Prob watched about 20 of their games.
I don't think its fair to label him a failure at his role yet. Still early. But its trending that way for sure.
However, its interesting to see that he is literally doing the same thing with Carolina that he did here so one could argue that he really isn't in any new role at all. I know technically he is their 2nd line center. But he is still getting lots of ice time, kills penalties, and is on the 2nd PP. Sounds familiar.
They actually played him a lot on the #1 PP the strike year and I guess they didn't like what they saw. So I guess thats the failure if one is to be had.
Oh well. I still miss him as a player. |

Yeah its a win win. Pierre drives us into the ground and everyone gets a tolerable person between the benches on NBC.

New guy is going to be busy. Roster analysis, draft prep, free agency.
Kind if idiotic they don't have a guy in place yet. They had to have someone in mind before canning Shero.
Hope they have some good coffee over there at Console... |

I could see us trading Letang and paying for 1/2 his salary. |
