I think we are starting to get off topic here...
Kimmo Timonen has a Philly Cheese Steak franchise possibility as part of his retirement deal from the Flyers. Will it be any good, and are we gonna get a stand in Console? - Guile

I've stated several times on these message boards...
I believe Shero signed Letang to an above-market contract (Karlsson is getting 6.5..very similar players plus Karl has a Norris) with the following in mind:
1. He gave Letang a few extra dollars to have him waive a full NTC and go with a limited NTC.
2. Shero was buying himself some time. If any of the young D looked great this training camp and/or into the season (Pouliot, Harrington, Doumolin), he would then move Letang. If not, he just planned to keep him.
3. Also was buying himself some time to see if he can extend Martin. If not, he would likely keep Letang.
Basically, he was protecting his asset.
Since Shero is no longer aboard, it will be interesting to see what the new GM will do.

I could see the Sharks making a pitch for Niskanen, however I really hope we don't sign him unless the price is around 5 mil. Even at that kind of caphit, I wouldn't want the deal to run for more than 3 years. And that kind of contract probably won't be enough to land him on the open market. |

Absolutely agree. I'd even add a little "allowed" to do in there. I'm sure ownership will be very, very involved in decisions over the next few months. |

Let's start by trading you guys his rights. It'll work out better than the TK move. Promise!

If Carolina trades Eric Staal, I'm going to be pissed.
Jordan bails on us to go play with big bro. 2 years in, big bro gets moved.
I think we miss Staal more than most folks realize. |

Hahaha ya really. I have to say I wasn't opposed to that move when I heard about it. A 2nd round pick was a steep price, but I did feel TK could work well in San Jose. Guess not - sjsharks92
He may not have had a great year but at no point should he have been playing behind Mike Brown, Havlat either. |

Karlsson wasn't on his pending UFA contract - Ryan_Wilson
Meaning what?
Didn't Karlsson sign his just right before Letang? Could be wrong...
That to me was the barometer...6.5.
When they announced 7+, I was very surprised. |

I'll take Sutter. I've been happy with his numbers compared to Staal's since the trade. Not saying Staal wouldn't be better off with the Penguins. But it's just time to move on. He got the $6M per year deal. We don't need that. Glad he didn't sign. Pouliot, Dumoulin and Sutter are worth it. |

It was probably just a little friendly payback for the Murray deal. At least that's what I think anyway. |

Leverage. If Karlsson was a pending UFA he would have gotten closer to 7.5 or 8.0. Just watch the Subban situation play out. |

Brown was playing well though for a time. And when you're paying Havlat 5 mil, you wanna make him at least play for it. |

Yeah it's easy to complain about the money the further back you go. Cap is going to keeo going and going for a few years before it settles. |

Very likely, I'd be shocked if at just 7 mil or less. |

Not sure what Ryan thinks...but I do. Montreal doesn't have anyone else that can do what he does right now. Especially with an aging core and Diaz gone. That's the going rate these days. Waiting for the lengthy deal has paid off. |

Ok gotcha. Just clarifying.
Tanger had a year left though so I don't think Shero had a gun to his head. I think he would have moved him if things turned ugly.
And I agree on Subban. He may be in the 9's... |

I'm wondering if Sutter now thinks he's a 4.5-5 million guy after this postseason.
I wasn't thrilled with Staal at 6 mill either but he's just the kind of dude you win with. |

100%. He has a better chance at 8.5M than he does below 7M |

Any thoughts on the following:
Neal + Niskanen rights + 1st <-> EDM Eberle + 1st |
