If we are talking Eberle/Neal Swap, I can see a deal like this:
Eberle + 4th rounder + 2015 2nd for Neal + Niskanen's rights + Despres
Eberle-Neal are close in value, as DDM said maybe more to Eberle as he does not have a Malkin or Crosby and the point totals are the same. Neal has the size we need.
Rights to a player are typically mid to low round picks, depending.
A 2nd for Despres can be debated, maybe you'd want a bit more than that, which i understand. Maybe a prospect added to that.
You won't get our 3rd overall in that deal though. We have a chance to get a centre or right shot D, so we would have to get that back in order to include the third in anything IMO. - ystoil
I'd rather drop out Despres and the 2nd, make the 4th a 3rd in 2014...

Oilers or the Avalanche most likely, though I could see the Canucks trying to get him to replace Edler if he is gone. |

I'd much rather have Letang at $7.25 mil than Niskanen at $6 mil. - rival22
Agreed. Let the F ING kids play. Get db outta here already. Hire a gm and get the wheels turning already. What is going on here let all the old junk walk start playing the young talent early so they can learn from mistakes . It's time to start a new era of penguin hockey lets get ahead of the current. Let him walk. Paying for a career year always bites back. It is reactionary and poor GM'ing. This team needs a culture shock and that starts with not bringing back players who are UFA's. You drafted D and signed Scuderi. You still have Martin and Letang. Let the youth play, push the veterans, and spark the team on the back end. That is why we stockpiled talent. |

Avalanche make a ton of sense imo. They're like the Oilers, except they have less money tied up in general, and considerably less tied up in Defense. |

Ok gotcha. Just clarifying.
Tanger had a year left though so I don't think Shero had a gun to his head. I think he would have moved him if things turned ugly.
And I agree on Subban. He may be in the 9's... - 87_71_11_29
potentially losing a norris nominee for nothing becasue you didn't negotiate a contract before the player possibly has a. another even better year, b. decides he want to test the market for personal reasons is almost the definition of a gun to the head for a gm |

If the oilers draft another forward, then that team is truly hopeless.
Honestly though, I'd much rather have the pens try to make a play for Perron.

But what if Niskanen is signed? Maybe PIT needs to add Despres too? - mventres
signing and trading hurts the team more in the long term as it puts doubt in your players that the contract they are signing is worth it. if your nisk and you sign to play on the pens and compete for the playoffs and get traded to edm, who may or may not break out of their slump anytime soon, youd be pissed. hey, the pens right to do that right? every other potential free agent is watching that Richard move and it may cost you in the future |

If you take the Edm 1st out of it, for a prospect or the 2nd rounder...maybe but the number 3 is huge. You would be trading Neal and Nisk for Eberle and potentially Ekblad. Thats just crazy - DDM-Coga
Draisaitl more likely. We aren't going D. No way. |

Tough to say.
The Oilers have added Marincin, Klefbom, Nurse, Simpson, Gernat, Musil through recent drafts and have Schultz, Petry and Ference on D, so help may be on the way.
Our forward prospects (esp in terms of diversity) are less impressive now that the first wave have become regular contributors.
I wouldn't expect whomever they draft to single-handedly change any of the teams fortunes. Whether D or F, it's clear that veteran additions to this squad are what's needed.
With all this in mind, take Ekblad if he's there, take BPA if not, and if there's a good haul to be had in trading down and taking a player that fits better or trading out and getting a quality vet, of course you consider that. |

I wonder if the new GM talks to niskanen straight up about it, then maybe something like that could happen. Tell him to give him a list of 10 teams or so |

Lol, petry and ference should not be on the top pairing. Schultz also is pretty weak defensively and should be on the 2nd pairing. They need a top pairing guy who can compete with guys like toews, kopitar, getzlaf, and others in the west. Someone who can shutdown the other teams top lines while contributing offensively.

Absolutely agree. I don't think anyone feels like those guys are top pairing guys, especially right now. Schultz and Petry are still young enough that if things go great, they could play top pairing minutes if paired with a true #1 guy.
But the general point is that outside of a true #1 guys, we're not interested in adding more 3-6 guys. And after Ekblad, there aren't a lot of dmen that fit the #1 guy description.
So there's certainly an argument for taking a forward. |

What about dropping to 9 or 10 and taking Fleury? I think he has top pairing ability. |

How much do you think it costs to go from 3 to 1 at the draft? Tallon sounds like he's looking for a pretty significant return. Part of that would be the 3 but he'd want a player too. Depending on the player I'd consider it. Would you do Yak plus your 1st for Florida's 1st? I'm assuming Florida sends something back but nothing major. |

No, I wouldn't do that trade frankly. It's pretty disproportionate to what every other 1st overall that's ever been traded down has fetched.
Tallon is the one who wants to trade down moreso than MacT particularly wants to trade up. I don't see why MacT bends over when Florida's the team that are uncomfortable with where they are in the draft. |

not a single oiler fan would. if they said yes to that (or if Mac T did) they would need a head examination.
So two first overalls for one first overall? I get Yak had a bad year but so did Huberdeau
Yakupov + 3rd + 2nd rounder for 1st overall + Huberdeau - maybe we add another pick (not a 1st) - not that either would make the trade but that's more fair in terms of value
Florida wants help now, we can't help with that. So Edm and Florida will not be trading unless we give up a mid round pick or give them the right to swap firsts in 2015. That's typically what you see to move up two spots. Not a huge difference between 1st and 3rd anyway this year. |

We'd for sure have to move one of our left shot D prospects then. If Perlini is on the board (or Ritchie which I doubt), I take one of them. |

So you talk about how it would be crazy for the Oilers to trade 2 first round picks for 1, but then suggest Florida trades 2 first round picks for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd???????? |
