I just feel this team feels too much pressure to win now. I feel like JVR for Schenn doesn't happen if the team is content to go into the season with a weak defense then address it later. - PhillySportsGuy
Pretty much... even under a persistent win-now mindset, they still don't have to approach every summer like they have to have all the openings filled and all the questions answered by October 1... at the cost of organizational agility and flexibility throughout the rest of the year. |

Same here. I don't want to see Hexy go out and land someone like Niskanen because he's that guy
He's not worth 7 mil. No way. He's had one good season. Imagine if he regresses not playing with Malkin, Crosby, Maatta....yikes. That's a 7 mil/7 year deal there.
 - Giroux_Is_God
He's not a true #1 but someone is going to pay him to be that guy.
If they have to trade BSchenn to get a #1 D guy then do it.
Otherwise I hope they just make smaller moves to address some other needs, getting more speed and skill on the bottom six forwards, figuring out what they are going to do with VL, and getting BSchenn re upped for a 2 year bridge deal would make me pretty happy.
If they can get the right guy for a top pair D I would go for it but it has to be the right player if the package includes BSchenn and a first. |

If you don't sign Streit you have a huge hole on D. HUGE! You needed to fill that and there really was no one better available. - mayorofangrytown
I don't think you would have lost anything on the ice by taking a chance on Tom Gilbert last summer, as some of us were advocating. Streit wasn't the only option, he was just the most obvious one. |

I wouldn't have traded JVR for Schenn either. They sold too low. I'd have held on to him and traded him for a better prospect than Luke Schenn. I thought that was an awful trade at the time and still do.

I didn't like the Lecavelier signing. It didn't make sense then or now. Hell, Mason Raymond was walking around hat in hand and he was a much better fit for this team in age and for the salary cap and yes, I wanted him then. - mayorofangrytown
I understand the Streit signing. I don't dislike it as much now. I worry about it in the future though. He had a nice season, but we'll see how he ages.
I guess I would have looked for a more reasonably priced option on a shorter term.
The Flyers signed the top ranked Goalie, Defenseman and Forward in free agency last summer. |

You aren't getting a #1 Dman for Brayden Schenn. You're getting a young NHL defenseman who may of may not progress from what he is right now at best. Especially with the current value on defensemen around the league. |

The Emery signing was fine. No problem with that at all.
When you sign the top ranked player at each position, you are going to overpay. The Flyers ALWAYS seemed to be pursuing the top free agents at every position every summer.
Why do we need Parise? He's a great player, but why would we be offering $100M for a winger when we have enough forwards!? |

What I meant was Brayden +
Like Schenn plus a first rounder for as an example ?Shattenkirk.
Even then it might not be enough, but that is more realistic. |

Boy I hope and pray the Mcguire gets hired as GM of the Pens. Oh the comedy that would follow. Plus it gets his stupid mug off my TV screen. That said it probably wont happen. |

Checking out some of the mock draft sites. Not do much for that's who the flyers might pick but to get some basic info on some potential picks.
I have seen a few people pick the flyers selecting Honka.
I don't know anything about him other than what central scoutings write up has. Thing is I just don't see the flyers selecting a smallish dman with the 17 th pick.
Unless he is so far more talented than whose on the board I am hoping Hexy passes.

Knowing absolutely nothing about him, 3 things I do like about him:
1) He's Finnish
2) In his first season in NA, he put up very hood numbers despite the different ice size and traveling to a new country
3) Plays in the WHL (personal preference) |
