I mean, that's sort of what I meant...
This whole "winning now" thing is funny to me. Like what does that mean? You (the general you, that is) don't want the team to address needs? You (there it is- that general you again) want them to just twiddle their thumbs until some draft pick pans out?
Personally, I want them to take a look at ways to improve the team, but not break the bank by compromising the future (or part of the future). This is why I liked the Streit and AMac deals.
Which is why I'm against sending Schenn and picks out to the Jets for Buff. And pretty much why I'm against sending Schenn out at all. - Giroux_Is_God
I agree. The TSN article said Vancouver would need an nhl ready center in return. We know damn well G and Coots aren't moving. I don't see Vinny moving for anything valuable, maybe late picks... That leaves B. Schenn.
Hexy seems to value a lot more then Homer patience and draft picks, so I think a trade is unlikely as well. But if it did happen, I can't see anyone but Schenn going... that's all

Nowhere does he say Flyers and Ducks are front runners. Just teams on Kesler's list. For all we know neither team could have any interest in him. - hereticpride

Darren Dreger: Ryan Kesler hasn't changed his mind. He wants a fresh start and to move on from Vancouver; he met with Benning earlier this week to talk about that. It's believed that Kesler still has six teams on his list that he's willing to be traded to. And we think that Philadelphia and Anaheim are among those.
Pierre LeBrun: The asking price remains high, as it should for a guy that only has a $5 million cap hit for two more years. The Canucks don't just want futures here, they want a player that can help them now, preferably a centre.
B. Schenn plus ? - Chris48
I'm more interested in finding out if the Flyers are one of the 12 reported teams with offers on the table for Jiri Sekac... big, skilled Czech LW'er, supposedly had a nice year in the KHL and Bobby Mac says he's NHL-ready. |

With Kesler on the market, that is going to hurt the chances of being able to trade Lecavalier. |

It could, it also may not.........Kesler will cost much more to land. If teams feel that's too much it could change their minds and course of action. |

Teams needing a #1 Center are going to look to Kesler and Stastny first. Lecavalier isn't a #1 Center anymore. Regardless of what the cost is.

And that maybe true but since neither of us are a GM and know how they plan to attack their off-season and fill out their respective rosters..........I'll still say anything is possible.

I'm not saying anything is possible or impossible. All I'm saying is that the more top centers on the market being made available, hurts the chances of trading Lecavalier. I think that's common sense.

Yes & to a degree it does........what I am saying is the asking prices of the 2 you mentioned could scare some teams away & look in other areas. I don't expect Vinny to go anywhere even if I'd like it to happen.

Kesler hasn't had a 50 point season since 2010-11, not sure he's still a number one center.
Over the last three seasons, Kesler's averaging 0.61 PPG, Rich Peverly, over the same span is averaging 0.54. |

Still a very good player, and certainly more appealing than Lecavalier. But with his public trade demands last season and the renewal of his stated desire to GTFO, plus the likely higher asking price, who knows? Kesler's supposed to have given his approval to 6 teams. Perhaps Lecavalier would be willing to consider more options.
Obviously, if supply exceeds demand it becomes a buyer's market, but price certainly affects that. If Vancouver demands a young, NHL ready center and the Flyers are willing to accept a 3rd rounder, then Kesler's availability might not affect a Lecavalier trade |

Don't forget Spezza... and Thornton/Marleau as well. Teams in need of big productive centermen are suddenly looking at a market flush with options. |

Just got a game used Jari Kurri stick and it's either fake (I don't think so) or he used a really small stick. Crazy |

Personally I'm fine with our team the way it is. I understand the concerns many have of Lecavalier but I don't feel he's an impossible fit. There was only two teams I didn't want to face in the first round. The Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers. Now the Rangers are in the Stanley Cup Final. With this said, should we move Lecavalier, I'm hoping it's not for Ryan Kestler. While he has a much better two way game then Lecavalier, he also has his own struggles with consistency and injuries. He's much younger then Lecavalier but in two years from now he'll age just like Vinny and we'll all turn against him. Afterall the Bobby Ryan jokes of years past, Ryan is exact what we need right now. We need to tweek, add and upgrade like we do every year. This really is a good team.
Now I would like to point out that Ryan is one year from Free Angency, Spezza wants out and Ottawa is without a first round pick. Ottawa might be the vulnerable team to take advantage of.
Any reason why we might not trade up to go after Michael DalColle who I'm assuming Scott Laughton is familar with? Wishful thinking, I know. My guess is Alex Tuch is our guy. |
