I'd move his contract out now if possible... better a year too early than a year too late.

I like Schenn and would like to keep him. He does have his flaws though. His point numbers are a bit misleading because he was given sheltered minutes all season. Much of that had to do with playing with VL. Couts 39 points are much more impressive than Schenn's 41 points.
I think with the right linemates and consistent ice time, Schenn is currently a 45-50 point player with a fairly neutral Corsi.
I worry about Schenn's upside though. He hasn't demonstrated to be great at any one skill. He's average defensively, average skating, average puck handling, above average wrist shot and above average physically. People raved about his hockey sense when he came out of the draft. I haven't seen much of that yet.
He scores many of his goals in front of the net. There's nothing wrong with that, but guys like that rely more on the players around them to make things happen. I'd like to see him use his strength a bit more in protecting the puck and holding it. He gets a little too fancy at times and ends up losing control.
I want them to keep Schenn and allow him to develop, but I'm not sure how much better he'll be than a 45-55 point player who needs to be sheltered a bit. That's a good player, but is it worth 2 first round picks or a top 10 pick in a very strong draft? Once they match that offer, Schenn's value would decrease because he'd be getting overpaid.
An OS would throw a wrench into things for the Flyers. I just don't see why another team would commit that much money and assets to a guy who hasn't shown he can carry a 2nd line yet. - PhillySportsGuy
To visualize Schenn's upside I picture him playing 82 games with Voracek on his wing.
I think he'd score 30-35 goals playing with Jake. Then put him on the first PP in place of Hartnell and he could do very well, points wise.
I get your points. He needs to be a stronger player along the walls and consistently over 50% on face offs. And learn to be a better defender. I think he will improve in all these areas. He is a good scorer now and willing to go in front of the net to score. He also is a hard nosed player.
I really would love to see him with Voracek if the Flyers could find another top line wing to play with G. Then you have 2 lines that are tough to match against.
Also I am in favor of leaving him at center. I just think he is better there, and do not have anything else to support this, just my feeling. |

I don't get the problem with Streit? 44 points from the backend is alright by me. In my opinion he is their best puck moving defencemen. - RobFlyers#1
And that's without regular first unit power play time. He had a strong season overall.

You can't. If you match, you can't move him for a calendar year.

Does anyone on here actually think we have a shot of unloading any of the following contracts Hartnell, Lecavalier, or Grossmann? In that order I think they are the equivalent to Ryan Howard in baseball, not in terms of dollars but of how there contracts make them unmovable - nonpoint22
Scott Gomez was deemed un-moveable because of his contract at one point.

Hartnell is so much better than those guys too.
In a few years, his deal may not look that bad either. - PhillySportsGuy
I agree, I don't consider Hartnell useless, or valueless.
How can anyone put him in the same category as Clarkson? |

True. But that was just a horrible deal, and it's only gotten worse. It makes Coburn for Zhitnik look like a fair swap. I wouldn't count on any GM making a deal like that right now. |

Vinny for Clarkson - VANTEL
I get the comparison because contracts are uncomfortable to say the least and both players are coming off less than stellar seasons. However, Vinny and his contract are still better than Clarkson and his contract.
VL
Last Season- 69 GP, 20 G, 17 A, 37 PTS, -16
Contract has 4 years left @ 4.5 million per year
Clarkson
Last Season- 60 GP, 5 G, 6 A, 11 PTS, -14
Contract has 6 years left @ 5.25 million per year
Clarkson is 4 years younger and plays wing, but I still think Vinny has significantly more value that Clarkson.

You don't ever count on a GM to make a deal like that. However, history has shown us it does happen.
I'm just hoping for a deal where Hartnell ends up back in Nashville. Back to a familiar city and back under a familiar coach. As much as I appreciate Hartnell and what he is good at, I think the team should move on from his contract while they can. |

It's not going to be easy to move Lecavalier. My only point is it's not impossible. I think that Lecavalier can bounce back and play better next season. |
