It's a first and a third - VANTEL
So you believe there is a team out there who views B. Schenn as the next Ryan O'Reilly? I'm not writing you are wrong, I just thought O'Reilly accomplished more during his career up to his offer sheet to merit the proposal. I believe O'Reilly's cap hit was $5.5 million/yr.

It's possibly something Hexy is exploring in addition to trying to extend him. |

I don't think they can take Prongers LTIR off until the season starts where they would need to be cap compliant - VANTEL
They can likely move money around to make it work. They will likely resign timonen. They can have him wait until day one of the season to sign.
They are always up against the cap and we say "how is this going to work!?" And it always ends up working out somehow |

ROR will get 6 mil this year I think . Look at what Bolland wants and McCarthur got.
5 mil for the the last four years of Schenns contract would be a bargain. |

The scouts I have spoken with said that Kapanen continued his across-the-bard development and there is a comfort level that he has the tools to be a good pro who contributes in a variety of ways. Even though it would have nice if his offensive development took a leap this year instead of baby steps, he was already starting from a good place and remains a top prospect.

If someone has the balls to OS schenn then fine. Flyers print money. Their only obstacle will be getting cap compliant. They have moveable pieces. They may not get much for grossmann, but they can move him. |

Everything I've heard on him so far is conflicting. Some feel he's more of a prospectivd third liner and others see him as NHL ready and a potential top six guy.
I've also seen him listed as a left and right wing. He shoots left, but my interest decreases quite a bit if he can't play and produce from both sides. We need left wings badly. |

Once the OS is signed I think you have 6 days to match. That is a short time to find a trade partner and to decide if you want to pay that much. |

All very good points on why Kesler is a bad idea for the Flyers. Unless they are able to move Lecavalier(either in the deal for Kesler or not) and Brayden Schenn(in a deal for defense help) which creates a bit of a hole at 2nd line C, there's no sense in it.
Even if they move both Vinny & B Schenn, I'd rather see Couturier given a crack at 2nd C before they add another vet - Jsaquella

Loved the analysis.
More and more, the new CBA will force GMs to recognize that star NHL players hit peak performance between ages 24 and 28. Agents will always try to cash in with monster UFA deals with players who are passed their prime. Kesler and LaCavalier are both player clearly well passed peak production.
The Flyers did not make a mistake in offering Kesler the dollars they did 8 years ago. If anything he was probably worth more. Crazy to offer up a player like Schenn for a player that is well passed prime.
On the other hand, LaCavalier is a lot more beyond prime than Kesler. Would Vancouver even think about that possibility? Unlikely.

How close do the Schenn brothers + 17th overall get us to 1st overall? |

I am not sure ,but if the offer sheet is signed by the player and the new team , I. Don't think he can be traded seeing the old team has to reclaim his rights by matching. Then after they match I am not sure if they can move him for a full calendar year as in the case of ROR. |

Kesler had 25 goals this year on a crappy team and was second best forward on Team USA. |

These 2 players are not in compare, Kesler is still a solid top 6 forward, Vinny can only hope the league slows down to a "70's" pace again.
Kesler is once again, the sexy option, not the required need, we need another competent defenseman. |

North Americans seldom do well in the Olympics overseas. Canada usually finishes out of the medal rounds on the big ice surface and culture and time change. This time we didn't ,but rule of thumb is we don't do good.
Don't forget Kane was part of that group also and Parise , I heard they are pretty good forwards. |

I would like to see #14 get second line minutes as well
Ok, how about this
Hextall trade B Schenn as a part of package for a quality top 2 Dman
Try to dump Vinny for some picks ( Leafs would take him)
Then bring back Richards for reasonable cash ( once he is bought out). He can mentor Laughton. |

If Richards is bought out, I think he's going to get a sizable offer from someone. He'll, at least, match what VL got from the Flyers. I'm not interested in a deal like that.
If the team moves Schenn, I would look for a less expensive option at center. A guy who can add 30 points, but play very strong defense. It would give Couts the opportunity to see more offensive time.
It would, also, give the Flyers flexibility with Laughton. If he's ready to move up to the 3rd line, they wouldn't have someone expensive blocking him.
Even if the center they acquire doesn't work out, they can look to make a deal for one at the TDL. Third line, checking centers are often available. |

and if he goes to detroit they will somehow teach him how to start missing the goalie |
