So much depends on what you do with Kesler. If Kesler stays, I think you guys are a fringe playoff team. - PhillySportsGuy

Agreed. They could even flip Kesler and hang around the fringe if they make a few sharp moves and get the right roster player back in the flip

If they move Kesler, they would need to find another player similar to Kesler. The only other player available that fits that description is ROR and he's still a rfa. |

To me being a fringe playoff team sucks.
Either put in a competitive team or make moves to get competitive.
Drafting between 15 -23 means you will do little to help your future with the draft and you are not competitive.
No offense I know you guys are drafting 17 th. |

Oddly enough Mark Streit is without a No-trade/No-movement. Andrew MacDonald also. |

I think they'll bounce back with the proper coaching. They may have lost a step, but I believe they're still 65-70 point scorers when handled correctly.
They're not built to play a checking, shot blocking, dump and chase style. They're built for puck possession. Torts was the worst hire the Canucks could have made for the Sedins. |

The Canucks just need to fake it for a year, see where Horvat, Gaunce and Shinkaruk are in 2015.
I'd be aggressive and move either Edler or Bieksa -- not both -- and get a nice haul that would include a roster player, and roll with that

It's what happens when you get distracted by outside chatter and lose sight of what made you good in the first place. We ought to know... Flyers have been doing that for years. |

Flyers have found a number of gems in that range over the years. Richards, Carter, Gagne, Justin Williams, Giroux were all picked between 10-30. They seemed to have done pretty good with Laughton too. |

I know.

I am not sure I would even trade Vinny for Kesler. It puts us in the same position as with Vinny but with a bigger cap hit. The only benefit is it would be only for 2 years. I would trade Vinny anywhere where he would get 2nd line minutes and I am sure Vinny would waive to actually have ice time than to play on the Flyers 4th line again.
Hartnell I'm not really sure we should trade. He is still 20+ goal scorer and while he isn't the best option for Giroux he is good enough. If there is a better option available then by all means go for it. I'd really like to see Mason Raymond with Schenn or Simmonds. That leaves Raffl and Harts to fight between the 1st line with G and 3rd line with Coots.
Grossman is the same. I am ok dealing him depending on who you replace him with. He is slow and not a great puck handler but he can play D and with the D the Flyers have they are going to need top 4 Dman playing the 3rd pair to even out the time since we lack top pairing Dmen. |

Flyers have always been more attracted to the two-way talent. Players like that are easier to integrate into the lineup. They can start on the 4th line and work their way up if they need to. |

Well, and once you've matched, you're stuck with him for at least a year before you CAN trade him. If he lives up to the contract, do you want to at that point. If he doesn't, who takes him then. - bodiva88

The problem with Schenn is his ELC was weird and his numbers suggest a better player than he was. There isn't a person on earth who would take Schenn over Couturier. In reality, Couturier is much more important than Schenn. - PhillySportsGuy
I think that one of the keys to this season is moving Couturier to the second line and putting him with a skilled winger like Voracek. I think Laughton's development can help ease some of the defensive responsibility Couturier currently has, but in order for that to happen Laughton needs to play. I was thinking that these lines would be worth trying this season.
Jokinen Giroux Simmonds
Raymond Couturier Voracek
Hartnell Schenn Read
Raffl Laughton Rinaldo
This would mean the Flyers would need to add Jokinen and Raymond via FA, which is not likely to happen.
The other thing would be if the Leafs were really shopping JVR, I think the Flyers should be interested. I would offer Brayden Schenn, Nick Grossman, VL, and 2015 2nd for JVR and James Reimer. It's probably not enough though. My thinking is that the Leafs would get two upgrades at C, plus a tough stay at home defensemen, which I think they lack and the Flyers would get a top line LW along with a backup goalie. |

I've been thinking bringing Richards back. He could have bounce back. But another reliable center that plays great defense that fits bully mentality is Ott. He could be a nice piece to add. If I'm trading brayden Schenn I'm making a package to get bobby Ryan and have him on the top line with giroux. Bring Laughten up. Couts on the 2nd line and pray to god Hartnell and or VL are gone and sign another winger or center. Or just bring up youth and be a fast pace and even younger team. |
