It's hilarious how they conveniently forget how the ref's incompetence is a major reason they are even still playing in the first place.

get over it. it's the final. poop is NOT going to always go your way - like having to play against 2 backup goalies, never having half your team die from blocking shots to calls that favor the other side. it's hockey. deal with it.

as i said in jan's blob from yesterday, the 3rd goal didn't cost them the game. they still had the lead, and blew it, and blew the ot with 2 garbage pp's...yet you don't hear a single peep from them about those horrendous calls.

The more I think about it, I'd rather see the Flyers fill the LW hole with a familiar face.

Sign a good two way player or veteran top 9 guy to replace him on the third line, which is cheaper and more accessible in free agency, and have Read play on the top line with Giroux. I think he'd be great there. Good speed, capable of scoring 20 goals in a primarily defensive role.

Guys like Daniel Winnik, Ryan Jones or Blake Comeau can be cheaper options and keep the cap impact light, which would be good even if the Flyers move Lecavalier or others to create room.

Good blog about it here:

i've thought read could move to that spot for a long time. he's just a solid, versatile, 2-way player with speed and good hands. i don't believe berube's reason of lack of net presence/physical play with read on that line is a good one or makes sense.

How about this:

24-28-17
19-10-93

You give Schenn and Hartnell a dynamic guy that can drive possession and create offense in Voracek, and give Giroux a speedy winger that can score and in Simmonds, there's still enough grit and physicality on the line that it won't necessarily get dominated by bigger teams.

That's the biggest flaw, but it does make the team better at 5 on 5. They could also keep Hartnell on the line with Giroux, and shift Simmonds or Voracek to LW on second line(Simmonds sort of plays LW on PP).

I'm more worried about improving ES play than lefty righty balance, though

I like that....

I'd also be inclined to see if Toronto would swap B Schenn for JVR or something of the sort. They want a center - and you brought up rebalancing a C for natural LW last night.

JVR-Giroux-Voracek
Hartsy-Couts-Read
Raffl-Laughts-Simmer

Good speed, good size throughout.

Here we go again with the "ex-Flyers" crap

JvR'd be a good fit with G & Jake, though

i'm willing to give that a look, but something about that line feels off. probably hartnell. i feel like he's an anchor with anyone right now...probably not accurate or fair, but i don't think he brings that much to the table anymore. still, i'm tired of seeing him on G's line, so i'd like to see another option.

that top line could be very interesting.

if we want schenn taking the next step, is hartnell the guy to help there?

I just look at the possession numbers and cringe. While Schenn & Simmonds were better away from Vinny, they were not exactly driving possession without him. Voracek was one of the best players in the NHL in terms of possession, you get him with Schenn and I could see the latter having a breakout season.

I'm thinking more about the pairing of Schenn & Voracek...Hartnell is there to create traffic and let those two get shots through.

I really hate that trade. Not Schenn, but the value aspect of it...sold way too low on JvR

Yeah...Voracek is blossoming...he's going to be an elite winger for a long time. I absolutely love him, might be my favorite current Flyer.

he's up there for me too.

turning into a leader in a lot of ways

him at 1:40 of this vid in Game 2... calming everyone down on the bench is great
http://www.youtube.com/wa...&feature=youtu.be&t=1m30s

then he goes on to get that late goal in the first and turn the momentum
