It means that the team can terminate the contract at any point, yet the player has a minimum amount of "guaranteed" money they receive if/when they get cut. So they are guaranteed to get a large (enough) portion of it, knowing full well that there's little chance of them actually getting the full amount of their contract. - jmatchett383
So it's sort of analogous to a signing bonus then? |

You can view it that way, yes. Only difference is that it's paid out over the course of the contract, until it's terminated. Once it's terminated, I BELIEVE that the rest is paid out in a lump sum.
Basically, it's like being to able to use unlimited compliance buyouts to a certain degree. You have to pay them a large sum to not play for you, but you clear the cap space. |

Exactly. I prefer 4 & Brodie over Tanev & 6th, but it's no slam dunk - Jsaquella
I think you might get Burkie and his new underling to do a straight up swap of Brodie for AMac if you really wanted him. I'll save Schenn/Couturier for the off chance an actual quality top-pair guy becomes available. |

Why don't they just get rid of the damn thing? - MunsterMike
If it was me I'd lose trapezoid, the shootout altogether, the penalty for puck over the glass would be same as icing, embellishment would be subject to suspension after multiple instances and teams would be fined heavily for a player who gets suspended for a dirty hit |

If so, I volunteer to ride my bike to Calgary to pick up Brodie |

You could then sign Butler off UFA to replace AMac's wondrous shot-blocking... maybe still end up paying less for the pair. |

Here's another:
On an icing only one guy can take draw. If there's a violation, he doesn't get tossed, but warned. Second violation is a minor for delay of game |

They were actually toying with an idea that, instead of tossing a player, he would have to move his skates back 6-12 inches to reduce his ability to win the faceoff. |

The idea behind this one is to eliminate stall tactics, like getting tossed on purpose. Still a minor seems a bit much |

On Wednesday, they will discuss Coach's challenge...one caveat will be, for sure, that to use a challenge, the team must not have used it's time out....goalie interference, puck over glass and offsides all may be reviewable |

I hear the following are also up for discussion:
- Increasing the number of players from each team on the ice from 6 to 11.
- Changing the puck from a hard rubber disc to an oval-shaped pigskin
- Allowing players to pass the puck using their hands.
- Changing the ice to astroturf
It will be interesting to see how many of these make it. |
