the crying on the non-interference call was just epic.
and if you watch the (frank)ing replay, it's clear as day that simultaneous contact is what directed king into the crease. mcdunnuh turned and engaged him directly. i don't understand why rangers fans don't see or understand this simple fact. - hammarby31
Not only that, but I am about 99% sure that there were two pretty god awful penalty calls with the game on the line due to blatant embellishment. The refs more than made up for what some call (definitely not me) interference. The Nash/Williams interference was comical. The Hank launching himself was almost as good. |

Or, they could adopt a system of revenue sharing that actually addresses the issue of small markets that can't generate the kind of money that teams like the Flyers, Rangers, Leafs and Red Wings can. - Jsaquella

2006 was a poop draft in general... you can't really complain about the way it shook out for the Flyers though... that guy from Gatineau turned out ok.
And damn, forget just getting 1 impact player from that draft... the Bruins got 3 (Kessel, Lucic, Marchand)... w/o that draft, they're still a poop team. - Tomahawk
I wouldn't say poop team, but they'd certainly lack depth. They would still have Chara, Bergeron, Krejci and Rask |

Palat and Johnson are very comparable to Schenn at ES... if the 2nd PP-unit wasn't completely inept, and if his teammates could shoot better than 8% at ES (Johnson's mates: 9%, Palat's mates: 10%, with each % equaling about 5-6 goals), he would have identical/superior numbers to them... at least that's what I'd be saying if I were Schenn's agent. - Tomahawk
And if I were Hextall I'd tell him Kadri and Stepan outscored Schenn in their contract years despite the season only being 48 games long, and they only got two years at ~$3m. |

Look at the QoC between the two though. Only St. Louis saw tougher QoC than Palat on the Lightning this year. - PhillySportsGuy
Check the discrepancy in QoT F, though. |

I thought the call on Carter was fine. I wish he would have done that a few times with the Flyers.
The call on Justin Williams was ridiculous. Especially, when you consider how great of a skater Nash is. A little bump and he went down as if he'd been shot. |

Ha! True -- that one's going to be tricky, though. The discrepancy between the top and the bottom, as far as local revenue generation...I'm pretty amazed that Florida's still there, TBH, and while I respect the Predators fanbase for truly supporting that team...I just don't know how they generate enough revenue if the floor comes in at $56 million or so.
Hell, if you believe what you read, St. Louis might not be able to do that, long-term. I don't know if Tampa stabilizes when they are better on the ice, but for whatever reason, I recall reading something during the lockout that said they might actually be able to generate enough revenue if they're winning. |

I know. I still think Palat is a better player though. I think Schenn would have a difficult time reaching 60 points even if he played with G and Jake on the top line. |

Boychuk is signed through next year. They may need to give bridge contracts to the younger guys instead of signing them long term.
I just don't see them moving Marchand. He's an integral part of their success. I think they'd rather move Eriksson of Boychuk (assuming Seidenberg is back healthy).
They can utilize Savard's LTIR once the season starts too. - PhillySportsGuy
They do have to deal with Iginla's bonuses though and resigning him |

Not complaining, per se...more wondering what might have been. If they could've hit on Nodl and even one of Bodrov or Ratchuk, then 2007's draft horror would've been mitigated and maybe they would've had a better shot in 2010.
I know...a lot of ifs.

I believe many of their players have some sort of NTC. I think they're going to be forced to let Iginla walk. |

Playing most of the year w/ MSL would boost anybody's production (and draw the other team's best checkers)... TJ, Palat and MSL were a thing for most of the year.

Fair assessment. I think they are going to try and trade one of those NTC players to make room. Im thinking Boychuk probably. |

The Rangers are discovering that their standard strategy, IE running the goalie and knee on knee hits, is not having the desired effect. - MBFlyerfan
the truth is the kings can withstand and early blow, and then wear down their opponent. they're deep, with size, skill, speed, and have a good mix of youth and veterans.
the rangers can't clutch, grab, hold, and moving pick their way to a 2-1 lead through a whole series against a team as good as the kings. |

i mentioned these in an another post the other day. they were disgraceful calls. nothing from the rangers peanut gallery. they had chance in OT to win and they didn't. the interference goal also didn't tie the game or give the kings the lead. it's a joke. |

Why would they do that? If the small-market teams were on stable footing, what talking-point would they use to demonize the players during the next negotiation? |

Just pointed this out in the Rags blog..
Goals for and against in the playoffs.
Rangers:
1st period : 25 for / 11 against.
2nd period: 20 for/ 24 against.
3rd period: 13 for/ 15 against.
Kings:
1st period : 24 for / 25 against.
2nd period: 24 for/ 23 against.
3rd period: 29 for/ 16 against.
In the playoffs, a good start means poop when you cant finish strong. The Kings get better each period, whereas the Rangers seem to get worse. |

He would make sense assuming Seidenberg is back and healthy. I think they may need to bank on Dougie Hamilton taking the next step and being a consistent 2nd pairing guy. |

I do find it interesting that Palat's already managed to out-shine Coots offensively so quickly... I think most people thought he was being carried by Coots in Drummondville... maybe it was a bit of the other way around.

I think this is one of those drafts that prove the quality of a teams scouting staff, and I have faith in the Flyers. I remember during the last draft somebody saying they tend to draft themselves out of their free agent mistakes and I'd say that's pretty accurate. The years after Pronger were obviously hard but that was to be expected, in the last few though I've been impressed. You can argue that instead of Laughton we should have gone Maata based on position but you can't argue that Laughton looks like a decent player. Anyway the Flyers have had some pretty good luck drafting in the low teens- early twenties so I'm excited for this draft. |

the rangers typically can hold teams off in the 3rd. they get their 1 or 2 goal lead by the end of the 2nd and shut it down. that doesn't work against the kings as we have clearly seen in the first two games, and the data from the other series bears this out.
