What don't folks get about that . Why must we make a big splash in the UFA market ? Especially at the term and dollars Callahan is looking for . No long term deals yet ! When you build a solid core of good young talent along with everything else happening down at The complex . They will come . And we will not have to overpay for them . Let Tim do his thing ! Just a little more patience is needed. - Maximum Signal
We do need a couple quality veterans with accountability and leadership, though. But you're right, no long-term contacts.

Wouldn't surprise me if he picked up some salary dump contracts and got a good young player or prospect in return.

Murray did mention the possibility of doing that . They could do a buyout for a team really hurting for a big return as we will still have on left after Ville . I believe this is the last year you can do the Compliance buyouts.

I'm fine with that, as long as the player comes to play.
No Ville Leino's! |

In all seriousness though, it goes to show what I said: if they're not part of your workout routine, you are going to struggle with them, especially as you get older and heavier. |

We need McDavid or Eichel. So NO we don't need to risk that. All the kids will be in Rochester. There is no reason for a leader yet. - sippyd
Completely agree with going for McDavid/Eichel
Trading for someone who a good leader that won't dramatically affect our scoring won't change that
Bringing in someone that's "captain material" like Callahan, Brown, etc isn't gonna help our goal differential all that much when u consider we lost Vanek/Moulson, Ott, and Miller
Our #1 objective right now should be finding leadership to bring these kids along the right way
Guys like Stoll, don't make LA score more
But a guy like that helping our kids with faceoffs, defensive zone coverage, playing against top lines so guys like Girgensons, and the rest of the young guys don't get overwhelmed....
That's priceless!
There's ALWAYS a reason for leadership
ESP now, when our other choices are horrible

Whoever we draft shouldn't be here next year. Grigorenko, Armia, Risto should be in the A. Zadorov still in junior I don't think we have to worry to much about ruining any prospects. I do think bringing in a good vet or two would be good for the team next year. Legwand, Boyle, Greene. They don't need to be top 6 guys like Richards or Vinny Just good character and leadership guys. - Cheeseballin
Brought Boyle up last week and was told he's just a 4th line plug now
I think he'd be a GREAT addition |

I don't agree that it ruined Vanek and Roy's career in the least. IMO it was the coach and GM that got stale. Yes they were good leaders but we missed there production more than anything - sbroads24
How many names should I list that didn't work out?
Paille & MacArthur were young guys tht went on to success elsewhere
Did Stafford ever fulfill his potential
Sure Vanek & Roy put up points, but did they ever "produce" all that much?
Idk...
I guess it tough to PROVE
But I think a loss in on ice leadership directly affected how well our young guys turned out
Why is it that the "C" Is viewed as such an honor and important part of a team, all across sports...
But on this board, no one thinks "leadership" is all that important?
I'm gonna side with all the ex-athlete commentators that talk about leadership being important on every broadcast
Can't prove it
Maybe I'm wrong
But then I guess a lot of ppl not on here are too as well

I hope you're right
But I'd say Edmonton disagres
No one will go there, and they have LOADS of young talent
All that talent also seems to be struggling
IMO, partly bc they don't have some solid vets leading the way
Pitt did, LA & Chi as well...
Maybe I'm overvaluing "leadership"
But when the guys that are gonna wear letters next year are Staff, Weber, etc
It makes me nervous
Very nervous |

18 points
12:45 a night (good for 11th on the team for forwards)
2:04 pk TOI (good for 1st for forwards)
10:28 ES TOI (good for 13th for forwards)
0:13 pp time.
That is a 4th line plug that can play the 3rd line if needed. He isn't the player he was 4 seasons ago when he scored 21 goals. He had 5 points in 12/13. He'll more than likely get 2+ mil as a UFA. IMO not worth it.
I liked him a lot a few years back, now not so much. |

Call me old fashion... But I'll take Callahan as my $7 mill. Sabres captain.
Get an elite offensive center with the #2 pick, stick him between Callahan & Girgensons. You've built yourself a legitimate NHL line.
Keep Ennis/Hodgson/Stewart togeather, and you've got a trio of proven young 20g scorers backing them up.
Now all of the sudden it's starting to look like Buffalo is building something here!
Beef up those 3rd & 4th lines and play some hardworking Teddy Nolan hockey!!! |

Kevin Devine has been doing a stellar job ever since he got a real scouting staff. I see no reason why he deserved to be let go. |

Every AGM helps draft some good players. It wasnt hard at all to select Ristolainen and Zadorov. Pysyk, Ennis, Myers and Armia were really Regiers choice then anything else. - Jammerz04
You're right. But I'm fairly certain he landed us Nick Baptiste. Just citing his most recent mid round awesomeness. |

I like Baker too. He should consider becoming a regional scout for the Sabres. |
