anyone who things bball players are tougher than hockey players is full fledged steetarded - Flyfreaky
It's a wonderful argument. Why do you think they wear so much gear?? Puck is harder than a bball.... travels much faster..... full contact..... hitting boards/each other... sharpened steel blades on your feet.
It seems more like a bball guy just saying bball cause he's a bball guy. can't possibly truly believe that.

Why do we want an over the hill defender like Boyle? We could have used him last year, but this year is a rebuild year. We should be concentrating on moving up in the draft and tanking next year. Who cares if we draft 8th, or 13th next year? We aren't getting in, so we might as well face reality. Best to try and slide down and go for one of the top 2 players in the draft. It's a generational draft, next year, with two pretty close to can't miss prospects coming out. Suffice to say, it's also a very deep draft. The time is now to go after a top 3 pick and if possible, draft Bennett. He's a feisty centre with intangibles that we need. It's time to plug the hole at centre, once and for all! - PrinceLH
these types of comments always make me wonder what nonis is thinking when he's all alone in his office staring at a copy of the current line-up |

I still don't think giving up shots is all the Dmen's fault.
Not that our blue line is competent in their own zone, because they aren't. I just think that the bigger factor was a dumbass system that no other team plays, for good reason. - Aetherial
okay - now this is just a fail - period.
everyone knows the system isn't dumbass. how... because there is NO system. |

I've had discussions over which is more difficult: saving a 90mph slapshot or hitting a 90mph fastball |

Let's evaluate Burke's drafting record with the Leafs (as it currently stands today)
2009- Kadri, Kenny Ryan, Jesse Blacker, Jamie Devane, Eric Knodel, Jerry D'Amigo, Barron Smith.
Kadri was the best pick at number 7 as most players behind him in the first round haven't really done much. (next best pick was 19, Kreider)
The surprise was D'Amigo in the 6th round, as he should have a shot to make the Leafs next year.
Ryan isn't panning out, Blacker was traded, Devane is nothing more than muscle, Knodel isn't impressing in College.
2010 - Ross, Greg McKegg, Sondre Olden, Petter Granberg, Sam Carrick, Daniel Brodin, Josh Nicholls.
Kessel trade year. Ross hasn't amounted to much.
McKegg is a fringe NHLer at this time, may not make it.
Olden wasn't signed. Brodin and Nicholls aren't on the radar anymore.
Granberg and Carrick are the surprises.
2011 - Biggs, Percy, Leivo, Nilsson, Cameranesi, DAvid Broll, Dennis Robertson, Garret Sparks, Max Everson
Biggs is flopping
Percy and Leivo look really good so far
Don't think any of the rest will amount to much
2012 - Rielly, Finn, Toninato, Connor Brown, Ryan Rupert, Viktor Loov
Rielly looks great.
Finn and Brown both had great junior careers and will join the Marlies
The rest look like they will wash out.
So, in total.
4 years of drafting
2 are in the NHL (Kadri and Rielly)
D'Amigo, Granberg, Leivo and Percy look like they have a chance at next years camp
Carrick and McKegg will remain in the AHL and need to impress (they're fringe)
Finn and Brown will start conditioning in the AHL to see if they can make the jump.
sound about right so far? - ILoveLamp
don't write Knodel off quite yet.... he would seem like the prototypical college player that Detroit picks up.
he sat his true freshman year, has increasing ice time each year - and his senior year he was a captain while playing top minutes and actually getting some power play time..
college hockey is not NHL hockey - and therefore the skills that some are able to showcase in the college ranks don't necessarily translate to NHL success... but a defensemen that size who can skate and cover the ice may prove to have some value.
now Barron Smith... that was a pick that was wasted.

these types of comments always make me wonder what nonis is thinking when he's all alone in his office staring at a copy of the current line-up - Flyfreaky
People like Nonis and sheltered hockey people like him are like civil servants. They live in their own little hierarchy and build their little empires, outside of the real world and reality. They are so engulfed with their so called hockey knowledge, that they can't see big picture. The real good hockey managers can look at their teams and see where they are deficient. In Leafs Land, it's always we're going for it, every year. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in the new NHL. Salary caps and restraint mechanisms don't allow for a team to stay on top for very long. Once successful, the core is wanting huge raises and you drop in the standings, once production falls from the players after their peak. Detroit has been the exception, because they know when to let a player....for example Valtari Filpula....go. They replace those players from their system at a lower hit to the cap. Chicago does the same. Leafs? We buy third liners and pay them second line money. We never improve because our drafting is so poor. Nonis is a boob who is riding on what's left of Burke's coat tails. I expect he will be gone, along with Carlyle, after next years collapse.

Have it on good authority Gilmour is begging the Leafs to trade up and draft Bennett.
FLA EDM are open to dealing and both like Dion but using the contract against Nonis to lower the value
Gilmour is being consulted with and will have a job in the organization soon.
My source is a friend of mine is friends with someone in the Frontenacs |

What job would they bring Gilmour in for? Assistant coach perhaps? I don't care if your full of poop or not I like the idea and I need something positive. |
