Obviously, Buffalo would have to pay as much of Stafford's salary as legally permitted. He could easliy be shopped at the deadline by the Habs for a draft pick.

The only work he needs to do is draft well, and convince some role playing FA's to join the team short term and maybe ride coat tails as we hit contention... thats it. What else do you want him to do?

And there are definitely guarantees in fielding a talentless roster that has 3rd liners playing on the first line.

However unlikely it is that they will be even an average team, there are still no assurances they finish bottom two or three, especially with Nolan here. His track record for taking talentless teams farther than they should go is proven.

What I want Murray to do is draft well, yes. But perhaps trade well, too. We don't need to keep all the picks. Package a pick or two and/or a player or two and move up, or trade for a younger NHL-ready player.

There's more work to be done than just drafting and signing a couple third liners.

No thanks. I'd rather have Stafford for the rest of his career then bring Briere back. I'd target the Oilers 3rd overall. We have the pieces to make it all happen.

I'm done w Stafford, but I have a feeling that is their plan for both Stafford and Stewart...hope the play big...and dump them as rentals to the highest bidder....i really hope they don't do something foolish like resign Stafford (as Darcy would have)...jury is out on Stewart though.....

I like Weircioch and Cowen on the Blue line a lot.... i wouldn't mind trying to swing a deal to land one of them...they are both Young, and wouldnt make you worlds better this year....but will help down the line when we are ready to compete again.

Yes a mid to late 1st or a good prospect with a couple years of development already in . If he is performing well , some GM will think he is the missing link.
