Ahhhhhhhhh so lame.

Think Weber will be bought out?

- Jammerz04

I think Weber is a Teddy Nolan guy. I can see him carving out a decent role with this rebuild.

He's a 26 yr old, 6'2", 215lbs, stay at home defenseman who can get physical. As your 6th d-man, he brings character and leadership to the locker room. And your never gonna have to overpay him. Personally, I see some Jay McKee in him.

Problem is Erhoff has a NTC and won't go west. Still think it is too early to give up on Grigorenko . Actually excited about him and Armia together in Rochester.

Limited that has been reported as 8 teams.

Dallas
Anaheim
Detroit
Pittsburgh
Boston
Philly

My guess is Detroit. IMO that deal should start and end with Pulkkinen.

To Boston for Brad Marchand. Marchand played for Teddy Nolan in juniors. He's a young, 26 yr old goal scorer, who could bring a lot of spunk to this rebuild.

If you attribute some his success to playing with Bergeron, draft yourself a Bergeron by taking Sam Reinhart.

Give those guys Girgensons to motor, and you've got a top 6 line you can grow with.

Ennis/Hodgson/Stewart is a youthful combination of 20g scorers with the potential to blossom in this rebuild as well.

Stewart's size may be enough of a presence on that line, to off-balance an otherwise lack of...

$4 mill for a guy with 30g potential seems to be the going rate. Perhaps TM will give that contract (with some term) to Ennis & Stewart, while taking it away from Stafford & Leino.

Ya know, a lot of the FA talk in Sabreland land has surrounded giving Ryan Callahan $7 mill to be Buffalo's captain....

But what if you could get Paul Stastny for less than that? Stastny is even younger, and brings more offensive upside.

Paul Stastny & Sam Reinhart would look very Krejci/Bergeron-esque to me.

Keep that Rat out of here . He benefitted from who he played with . Hardly a Teddy Nolan type player anymore . Talk about a cheap shot artist . You better keep Scott around . Someone has to fight the little Rats fights for him.

Fresh (ish) discussion:

TM: "I can’t imagine I would trade the second overall pick," Murray told ESPN's Pierre LeBrun. "I’d like to get a couple of more first-round picks and I have those three third-rounders to us. I certainly know you can’t trade a second for a first, but you might take some money back in a deal to do that and I do have to get to the [cap] floor. There are different ways to get to the floor so I’m exploring all that."

SO Scuderi and #22 to Buffalo for the later 2nd rd picks

2,22,31

Then use 22 + and a later second next year to move up to 12-15.

2, 12-15, 31

Top 4 teams with limited cap space. Per Cap Geek

1. Hawks, $66,429,295 total, $1,167,676 per opening
2. Flyers, $64,541,429 total, $1,093,095 per opening
3. Bruins, $61,979,643 total, $1,520,060 per opening
4. Sharks, $59,605,000 total, $2,299,000 per opening

Hawks need to sign Jeremy Morin, Ben Smith and Antti Raanta

Flyers need to sign a backup goalie, Erik Gustafsson, Brayden Schenn, Erik Akeson, Steve Downie, Tye McGinn and possibly a UFA defenseman. Good luck.

Bruins need to sign Justin Florek, Reilly Smith, Jordan Caron, Jarome Iginla, Shawn Thornton (maybe), Torey Krug, Matt Bartkowski and a backup goalie. Once again, good luck.

Sharks need to sign James Sheppard, Tommy Wingels and Jason Demers along with Alex Stalock. Doable, perhaps.

Fire away with trade proposals taking their first for our seconds.

As long as that jump from 22 to 12-15 is worth more than what we give up for it. Not a bad idea, and I see why Scuds was thrown in there. I mean Rob Scuderi would basically be a whipping boy. He's signed for the next 3 years. Granted we have the cap to stuff him in the minors, but then again, we want to be bad.

Hes awful. I wanted him to be good. I was (and still am) sick of darcys smooth skating european type defensemen, the type that quietly get things done (when they do). Weber represents the polar opposite. Except he is terrible. He and mcbain are going to be very influential in getting a top 2 next year.

You are dead wrong on this one . If he performs like he does in contract years . Some GM will see him as the piece they need at the deadline . He has done it before . Murray has already talked to him and they agreed on what he is playing for.
- Maximum Signal

You are probably right. A GM will see Stafford as a piece he could use, and it will most likely be a middling draft pick he's willing to give up. Stafford has had one good season in a contract year, three years ago, and even then, he wilted down the stretch in that year (remember, "hat tricks or he didn't score at all"?). Not to mention, there will be better names that come up at the deadline. They always do. This is the same kind of thinking that had everybody certain that someone was going to give up at least a 3rd or 4th round pick for Henrik Tallinder at least year's deadline, when the absolute nothing the Sabres had to give to him clearly indicated otherwise.

Must have been like Jaromir Jagr: had some gambling debts to pay off. Making $15 million tax free should go a long way in helping that.

If a player retires, which Kovalchuk technically did, he can come back to his old team basically whenever he wants (assuming the old team will take him back). The six year stipulation is for some other team. It works that way in basically all four major sports.
