You are probably right. A GM will see Stafford as a piece he could use, and it will most likely be a middling draft pick he's willing to give up. Stafford has had one good season in a contract year, three years ago, and even then, he wilted down the stretch in that year (remember, "hat tricks or he didn't score at all"?). Not to mention, there will be better names that come up at the deadline. They always do. This is the same kind of thinking that had everybody certain that someone was going to give up at least a 3rd or 4th round pick for Henrik Tallinder at least year's deadline, when the absolute nothing the Sabres had to give to him clearly indicated otherwise.

You're wrong on this one . Stafford has career year . Flourishes under Nolan . Gets good return at trade deadline. Hard to believe but this time you are wrong . Besides they need to keep what little Salary they have to reach cap floor . Amazing how contract years make Stafford look like a better player . No GM is going to look at long term , when they are considering this year playoff run this year . Amazing how players having career years can fool GM's - See Clarkson.

Hes awful. I wanted him to be good. I was (and still am) sick of darcys smooth skating european type defensemen, the type that quietly get things done (when they do). Weber represents the polar opposite. Except he is terrible. He and mcbain are going to be very influential in getting a top 2 next year.

What makes him unworthy of a bottom pairing? I agree that he's not very good, but he's a hell of a #6. Also I'll note I also dislike him. But he's pretty good at the PK and blocking shots. When he's relied upon to be a top 4, that's where things go from bad to fugly.

The top 5 are pretty consensus. After that, it's a myriad of mock draft choices. Would the Panthers really want Garrison, Horvat and, I don't know, Nylander for Aaron Ekblad? I sure wouldn't.
