Serious question: When will a mod ever do their "job" in one of these threads.

I don't know how many of you think I'm a good poster, but I don't post here anymore because the trolls run (frank)ing rampant around here and talking hockey always, ALWAYS, gets derailed at some point in almost every thread. It's not fun to me anymore, and I'm too old to get into a stupid argument with a faceless person on the internet.

People come into Dan's threads with pointless, insulting, trolling comments and they continue to post willy nilly with nary a warning. Why do I know this? Because they keep doing it over...and over...and over.

Without your own regular mod, most things will go unnoticed unless someone hits the button. But as I've stated, someone coming in and talking hockey - despite your sensitivities as a fan - isn't a bannable offense if they're knocking your team.

I let many "troll" posts go in the Sabres threads as long as their talking about the team. Knock the GM, players, etc, just keep from personal attacks and I don't remove posts or give out bans.

I hate to say it....I've become a lurker.

I don't have the stomach to post here anymore. It's seriously the COWARD'S OK Corral around here. And.....no one does anything about it. I post on a lot of boards and stuff like that...posters get away with everything around here. Just sad, I used to be addicted to this site. Hope all's well bro. About to have another girl.....sheesh...

Not at all, I ban Sabres posters regularly.
- stashu

Well there's a million of them. I would hope a couple of them get banned every now and then.

I know how being banned for a day or two get hurt.

Wasn't long ago that Ek mentioned that 'type' of trolling as precisely something he wouldn't put up with. Wish I could find it as it was quoted by another ref.

Sensativities? Are you kidding me?
Read this thread daily, and tell me how many opposing fans "add" to the conversation.

Dan's threads get hundreds, if not a thousand responses after a day or two, when do we get a mod? People know they can come in here, take a shot, and then run back to their little team's thread because they know they'll get away with doing it?
If you think a bunch of grown men are going to go around hitting the "!" key everytime someone calls everyone involved in the Isles organization clueless, you're mistaken.

New to hockeybuzz?

Agreed...also not to partake in what appears to be potentially explosive conversations. If you walk on to someone's property and punch them in the nose, that tends to be looked at less favorably than if they walked on to your property and you did the same.

Nearly every day here we get at least on Buffalo fan coming in trying to spark something. It's old. The saturation point is causing the marsh to stink.

Read my latest post, but I know what you're talking about. Our own threads got ugly for the last 6 months or so, mostly from "our own", but we're trying to fix that by taking care of things before they devolve.

And yes, I give a bit more leeway to the home team in combating trolls, but ugly personal insults are uncalled for.

BTW, I haven't even deleted any of those types of posts here or banned anyone for them up til now.

Can't make it up.

Someone should volunteer to be a mod here. Maybe we could go a page our two in these threads without a Ranger, Penguin, or Sabre fan starting some stupid poop.

I don't get the "too proud to report a post" types...is the effort too much to click the button? Do you get offended and feel like a snitch??

If you think something is offensive, report it and the mods will have the chance to see what's going on and remove posts/people if that's the case. Without your own dedicated ref, it's the easiest way to draw attention to the trolls and have them dealt with, otherwise how are they to be seen?

As for what constitutes a troll (hence my prior post with it in quotes), people have their own take on it. before I was a ref I'd just ignore posts of people I didn't like/considered trolls (Sabres posters in the Sabres thread). Trolls are looking to get a rise out of people - without getting that they lose their sense of worth...whatever worth that is.

I personally don't think that talking about a team/organization and criticizing them is too out of bounds for a hockey discussion forum, but that's me. I roll my eyes a lot at the ridiculousness of it, but it's discussion, and if it's something I want to get involved in I post - if not I don't.

This is my last post about this.
You don't know who I am. You know why, don'tcha? Because I don't post here anymore.

We shouldn't have to report anything. Trolling is, and I saw it when I joined up here 6 years ago, supposed to be a bannable offense. It's not, it's clearly not, and then you lose posters who add to the conversation, who, sorry if I come off egotistical here, like I once did. You must have a pretty rosy life to come here and deal with this crap. Sorry to single you out, but what Vukota is dealing with happens daily and the opposing poster never has to answer for coming here and starting a poopstorm.

I get it, and we've seen the same comments from Sabres posters in our threads - how they've stopped coming by due to the posts and atmosphere - and that's from Sabres fans posts too, not outside "trolls".

I don't have a "rosy life", I just have a harder shell when it comes to people who may come and talk crap about my team. If they're making points about the team/front office, have at it. It's when bickering and attacks between posters happens when I get more irritated.

I've tried working to get rid of the direct bickering between posters there and I hope it's helping some, and that's all I'm trying to convey here

All Ref's are different... some are out of control.

My last ban was for asking a Chicago fan why so many of them have the Season Ticket?

Sheesh, my last point, the one I was trying to make, and I'm gonna sound like an old man here....
There's no such thing as accountability anymore. When I was a kid if you did what half the posters around here did, you know, in real life, you got popped in the face. I don't condone fighting at all, not at my age , but you have some posters who are all too comfortable taking shots at others behinds the comforts of their computer screen while continuing to post here all willy nilly satisfied with themselves.

Maybe I'm not as comfortable in my skin as you are, but I don't find the conversation here all that fun anymore, and until you guys start banning people, and I'm talking weeks, not days, you'll have old guys like me that actually remember the team's history and replace it with another sugar-hyped poster who'd rather inflame people than add to an actual conversation.
I'm not trying to single you out by the way. maybe we need our own mod.
