I can't do it. Have you ever played any of the rinks in Queens? Moving to Forest Hills July 1 and all I can see is that it's about twice as expensive to play there.

Mine would be...

Jersey
Ottawa
Coyotes
Nashville
Columbus

I live in Sands Point. Nothing is easy to get to. Nothing.

On a good note, my son's Mite team was invited to play on the Coliseum ice on opening night in October. Should be fun.

You live in Sands Point?! You should buy the Islanders.

Side note: Some of the reasons for teams going defunct on this Wiki page are hilarious.

"Ceased due to players' strike; players were bought by the New York Americans

and my personal favorite:

"Lack of available players due to World War I and arena burned down[

1. Chicago Blackhawks (yeah, they're awesome but I hate Chicago)
2. Detroit Redwings (two original sixes so far...two lousy places to live)
3. Columbus Blue Jackets (Ohio? Really? Ohio?)
4. Buffalo Sabres....(I'd storm the announcers booth like Ned Braden in slapshot and kill Rick Jeanneret, he annoys me)
5. New Jersey Devils
6. Washington Capitals (see #4 but substitute Craig Laughlin)
7. NY Rangers..I have my standards
8. Tampa Bay...
9. Winnipeg Jets
10. Pittsburgh....yep...Pittsburgh chix...no thanks.

I'm not saying the Isles should be every players' #1 choice. It's just mind boggling to me that more players would not want to play for them though. They are a year away from Brooklyn with plenty of young talent with more on the way and a possible new owner.

Keep in mind that all visiting teams see is the area around Republic Airport, the SS Pkwy between Farmingdale and the Meadowbrook and then the crappy Marriott across from the Coli in tropical Uniondale.

Not many know that LI is a generally pretty gorgeous area.

edit: Maybe not the pkwy, no buses...so the LIE. Even worse.

All true but they cannot play at the Coli for a year? These players are not smart enough to see what the Isles are building and that they should be good for years? If there was no going to Brooklyn and no JT and other young talent and prospects it would make sense to want no part of the Isles.

It's not that I disagree. Just saying, first impressions are a lot for people. If I grew up in Western Canada and got the "NHL player tour" from the airport to the Coliseum, I probably wouldn't want to play here either. Couple that with the general circus that goes on with the Islanders and I may say forget it. Tavares or not.

He's a clown. He's supposed to sound that way. Believe me, I watch every Habs game with the opposing announcers. There are far worse.

The thing is, there's really nothing there to see when you go to the Coliseum. What are you showing the guy?

I can't stand his awful one liners. "He puts it backy shelf where momma hides the cookie jar" and my all time least favorite, although now irrelevant, "Pommminnvillle scoooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrres and the population in Pommin-ville has increased by 1!"

I'm confused..that was my point. Or are you asking what else in the area would you show him?
