Completely agree. I'm not a fan of Vanek's work ethic but for a player of his caliber to say the Vanek-JT-KO line was "the best line hes ever been on" it says something. If Boyle signs (a stretch at best) I think you try and trade for Sharp before signing Vanek. I also think Callahan would be great for our system. No matter who is on the ice there will eventually come a point where Garth has to realize he's going nowhere with Capuano behind the bench. He has to get fired like 6 months ago.

Some idiot is going to pay Callahan a lot of money and I hope it's not us.

Who do you want to throw money at then? I understand there's baggage with Callahan, but a second line winger who can turn our PK around? Our PK was one of our biggest weaknesses, on a team FULL OF WEAKNESSES. We have the money to do it. I think he would be great for the system and more importantly, the locker room

Callahan isn't a $6M or more per year player. You can't pay him that kind of money. Somebody will. It will be a mistake. And that team will regret signing him to that much money.

There's certain Islander fans that have grown accustomed to taking the safe road. A player like Callahan I think you take a risk and you rather regret signing him rather than not signing him. I would love to see us offer him 4 years 25 mil

Would be great if the term was 4yrs then most teams wouldn't mind paying Callahan $6M per. The issue might be is that players are going to ask for the moon if they know their in demand. In a relative weak FA market, plus the Clarkson contract comparison that most will use, teams either buy-in or don't....

4 years is OK, maybe. But he's still not really a $6M+ player. That's how you end up with David Clarkson. Taking a risk on a guy that has overachieved a little and doesn't really have a ton of skill. Frankly at that money I'd steer clear. Cheaper options in free agency that will provide similar output.

Dont think you can compare Clarkson and Cally. Two very different players. Cally brings more to the team. I see where you are coming from though

Every time I see his name, I think I'm reading Boyes name—only one letter different.

I'm not comparing the two as players. Callahan is a better player than Clarkson I'm not arguing that, just that giving a guy who isn't a skill player that kind of money on a longer term is just setting ourselves up for failure.

Not to mention that Callahan has played a full (actually 81g but I'm not nitpicking) season exactly 1 time in his career. The way he plays the game is very admirable but it's taken a toll on his body and that's only going to get worse as he get's older. If you ask me it's a huge mistake to tie up that kind of money in a guy who A) isn't overly skilled and B) could miss significant time due to injuries. If we're going to throw $6M+ at former Ranger UFA's then I'd give it to Anton Stralman 11 times out of 10.

Rags went full blown Torts style trap yesterday, and 3 posts/crossbars and inches of ice saved them.

Jeff O'Neill.

Just saying that he pissed away the draft pick he spent on Boyle. Now they have one of the Sharks reporters on talking about it and basically said that he spoke to Dan Boyle about it and there probably isn't a chance that he signs here. No real surprise.

Said Boyle wants a 2 year deal because he thinks he definitely has 2 years left in the tank. Would consider one year and huge money but wants 2.

This is what cracks me up. He'll most likely recoup the pick by dealing him after Boyle turns them down. Also you mean to tell me Boyle told the reporter before telling the isles that he won't be signing there? Listen I think its a long shot at best from the get go but these clowns on the radio are a joke. Also didn't the isles offer him a two year deal?

a 5th round pick isnt worth much more than said piss...having said that, he can recoup a pick.

of all the things garth has done, this is hardly an issue.

2 for 12 is huge overpayment but that's what it would take if they wanted him. Its not my money give it to him. Make it where he can't turn it down.

no way!!! offer that to someone who isnt old...fayne/stralman would be happy making $6MM a year, they may just have to give them 4 years instead...

Fayne & Stralman aren't signing for 2 years. Of course I would rather have those two first but if they are just looking for a two year plug then do it and move on. So big deal you over pay for two years until Pulock and the others are ready. It's not like they are up against the cap

1. It's a 5th round pick.. does it really matter?
2. Isn't this exactly what was said about Halak after he did not sign imediately?
3. We hare a MUCH better team with Halak... MUCH!! how much.. Nabby only played 39 games last year and had a winning record. when he got hurt we lost 12 of 13 games. Halak is better than Him.. no?
4. We will also have better defenders b/c Amack is gone, certainly seems like Garth is going to get someone... and our young guys are 1 year better.

the guy wants the $$$ first, O Dog is a bone head!!! Its about the cash....all this talk of being on a contender and now he wants to play with the Leafs so badly...doesn't everyone want that ...we will get a pick back no problem and really I still like the fact that Garth is being aggressive for a change... lots of guys didn't want to be here...yet they still are here....
