Obviously in his prime you'd get more but you trade Weber for forwards now you end up waiting for your D to fully develop. You trade Jones now and you'll have forwards developed quicker while Weber is very much still in his prime. It's a no brainer for me.

Overall, I'm still of the opinion they should have made a trade right then and there on the draft floor when Jones fell to them.

And if everything doesn't workout within Weber's limited years of greatness left, Nashville could take the Philadelphia root of coping with the trade of Jones. Complain about what could have been.

Why not keep both of them? Having two #1 defenseman in the playoffs is such a luxury. They can assure themselves of having one of them on the ice for 50 of 60 minutes.

There is no reason they can't focus more on drafting and developing forwards over the next few years and become a legit Cup contender.

Or I could just as easily say what is Jones is a bust and they held onto him? I mean you have to look at it both ways.

Nashville has been well focused on drafting for as long as they've been around. It's not like they never had Kimmo Timonen or Ryan Sutter.

It might just sound pretty on an acoustic.

I can imagine Eric trying to explain that one.

Chris Pronger suffered a freak injury. It could happen to anyone.

You expect some to take that into account?

Unless they already have some top prospects at forward already in the system, it's likely to take more then a few years. Look at how long it's taking Couturier and Schenn to develop?

Is Jones a bust? How much closer is Nashville to a Cup with Weber and his huge contract? they're also crazy committed to Pekka Rinne

I don't think that Jones would command the type of package in a trade that you think he will.

In my opinion they just have too many holes up front right now to do that. Plus Weber has already displayed a lack of patience for that route. They aren't going to bring in big FAs. They never have. All they have up front right now is Hornqvist. And maybe Forsberg pans out. Going that route by the time you have a legit 1st and 2nd line then Weber will be on the downtrend.

I would think some would take into account that it is possible for players to slow down career ending injury or not.

I never said what the package would be. If we are led to believe everything we are about every D man the Flyers look into then there is no reason to believe Jones would bring anything less than two fairly highly regarded young forwards.

I don't see why they need to win now. Next year's draft is stacked. Just continue to add forward depth.

They can always look to deal guys like Josi, Ekholm, MDZ or Ellis. Those guys won't bring back the big time center, but most of them would get you a top 6 forward. Josi may get you a top line forward.

I just don't see the logic in trading away a top 5 defenseman and a prospect with elite defenseman potential.

In your premise that if they trade Jones, they'll have forwards that are ready quicker, I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that you were talking about established top NHL forwards. That's the only way I see them ready quicker.

Well you've clearly set your mind on that so I wont continue to debate whether or not that its not their only option. I personally think they can build a strong team around Weber in a few years time if they make the right move with Jones and draft accordingly. I'll just leave it at that.

If I'm going for a defenseman from Nashville, it's Roman Josi. Not as big a name as Weber, but still a 1st pair(or 1st pair potential), fair contract against the cap and capable in all situations. He's starting to hit his prime & there's no wait, like there may be for Jones.

That must have been great. Did they have a full understand of the game or was it just two guys trying their best at a sport they didn't know very well?
- PhillySportsGuy

No they definitely had knowledge of the game, but they announced it JUST LIKE soccer. Last name heavy, with little cute quips in between

I'd ship out Brayden Schenn for Josi.

No, I didnt mean they're going to get a package of say JVR and Kadri or anything like that but some young forwards that wouldnt take nearly as long to develop as a young D man would. Players somewhere along the developmental lines of where Simmonds and Schenn were at at the time they were traded as an example.
