An asset is an asset is an asset.
Look at the LA Kings down the middle. 4 real strong lines around 4 solid NHL centers.
If Ottawa acquires Berglund, their starting centers are likely Turris, Zibanejad, Berglund and Smith. I think Lazar makes the team and starts on the wing but is destined to play center. Stone, Hoffman and Peumple also get a chance for ice time.
Ottawa is just one hard forward away from being a very hard line up to play against.
At some point Ottawa is going to need to move some prospects (or regulars). They are starting to get a little overloaded with guys deserving a shot. - spatso
Did we not learn from Zibby? Stop putting these kids on the wing after they made the NHL playing centre. It slows down their development significantly.
I don't think Berglund is a bad addition. I'm just not swooning over it. He'd be the centrepiece of the trade. The prospects and/or picks would be underwhelming probably. |

I tend to lean towards Winnipeg (Byfgulien/Kane) with the Schenn brothers going back , but unless Philly dumps or trades away $, it doesn't work cap wise. - JACMAN
That would be a great move by the Flyers.
It would certainly give them a huge leg up on the physical upgrade.
But they would need to drop a ton of salary. |

WIth most guys, I agree with you, but Lazar might be a special case.
He really excelled at RW at the world juniors. |

You're right. If you look at most guys who end up playing center once they reach the NHL, they are usually high "assist to goal" ratio guys. I think it shows that they distribute the puck really well.
Lazar, on the other hand, always gets more goals than assists, and is so strong on the boards, I see him on the wing more than at center in the NHL. |

Still think we over value our prospects, as do all fans, but it usually ends in disappointment. I see Lazar back in junior next year it's just too early.
What are all the thoughts on the Chicago writer saying the Hawks have given up on Kesler and are turning their sights towards two Eastern teams in Tampa and Ottawa. Rumour is they want Smith and Greening. They don't score much but it's another big body gone from the middle (2 of our top 3 when Spezza goes) so what do they do? Can't put Pageau or DaCosta there they are just too damn small, it doesn't work. Peumpel, Price, Grant? I agree with another poster, it's time to start moving some of these third line guys for prospects or higher picks.

If moving Smith is what it takes to also be rid of Greening's brutal 3 year deal then I am for it. I like Smith but he isn't anywhere near irreplaceable. |

Plus if they can bring back a Bickell, then we get some jam and size. A little concerned about scoring but if Spezza goes to the Blues and Berglund is returned then our big bodied forwards are still there and the RW gets better.
What do we do on the back end though? LOL Going to be a couple years fixing this lads for sure. |

I don't want Bickell, 4 million per year maybe 30 points if he stays healthy? Not worth it. |

leaf fans who blane their collapse on bernier missing 5-6 games, while ignoring the garbage product on the ice, are just my favorite.
it's that kind of inability to see reality that allows the leafs to be the leafs............ - sensarmy_11
Bernier was injured for all the games he played after the Olympic break, thereby skewing any proper assessment of his play during that time. Had Reimer played like an NHL goalie in the last quarter, Bernier wouldn't have been playing.
As for garbage on the ice, I'd reserve that description for teams that couldn't make the playoffs with a healthy number one goalie in their line up.

So what you are saying is the Leafs are only one injury to Bernier from being garbage? Leafs are going to have to make Bernier their highest paid player after next season if that's the case - dcz28
A number one goalie is a necessity for success in the NHL, especially one not suffering from both a hernia, and an MCL injury.
