Saw that Brasil hasn't lost a non-friendly (meaning a non-exhibition, to the non-soccer types) international match in Brasil since the 1970's. That is strong.... - mohel

It was fun watching the BPL on the weekends. It's a whole different ballgame watching teams that are actually good, and have passionate fans. I can't sit and watch a whole match, but good viewing. |

Bollig is a decent forward.....but can't keep up with quick/fast teams....and as far as the hawks being soft...just because they don't goon it up doesn't mean they're soft. - UnnamedSource
Neither could Handzus but they kept running him out there. |

Cue the "We like our team; we were a bounce away from the Final" speech....
Next year's 2C will be Shaw, TT, Hayes, or.....Rasmussen. This GM doesn't have the balls to make a major deal. I'll believe it when I see it. |

Good post, Cup. - mohel
Mohel, what everyone forgets is we were a bounce away from being where LA is. Handzus had a rough series speedwise. I guy like Nate Thompson is cap friendly replacement.
I do understand the armchair GM has a "flare for the dramatic" requirement. I guess I fail there.

I guess balls are in the eyes of the beholder ( ).... In the past he's had the balls to not make the "big deal" many sought, and he's usually been proved right. So, I'd say he's got plenty of balls. Is he wildly aggressive? Certainly not. Should he be? Maybe not... |

Making a really good team more solid and well-rounded doesn't necessarily have to entail the "Big Sexy" trades/moves. |

If Stan can sign Kane and Toews to long term contracts this summer then it's a successful summer. Everything else would be gravy...mmmmm.....gravy..... |

One bounce away but super fortunate to be there. They were far from dominating and needed their goaltender to carry them for two rounds.
At 6 mildo you expect CC to do some work but that isn't the way this team wants to play, nor is it the way they filled seats.

Stan's in a tough position: assuming (ASSUMING) for the moment that they are up against the cap - he has very little that is tradeable (for practical purposes) that provides major relief - of the core, only Sharp has a replacement (presumably) ready (Saad) - can't do Keith or Seabrook (no replacement), can't do Hjalmarsson (no replacement and a terrific contract), can't do Hossa (contract issues), can't do Crawford (no replacement), certainly won't do the twins.
Don't receive much relief if you got rid of Saad / Shaw / Kruger (not that you'd particularly want to) or any other forward.
Leaving only Oduya ($3.375) or Leddy ($2.7) or both ($6MM) - but of course, you'd have to replace them with something - and, hopefully in the case of Oduya, somebody who could be a second pair defenseman.
And it's been this way for Stan since the Stalinist purge trials of the summer of 2010 - and will probably continue. - StLBravesFan
So, a question for those of you familiar with the last 5 drafts: When will fans in Chicago (not RFD) begin to see the fruits of recent Hawk drafts and player development (I know - Saad, Shaw, Kruger, more?)? But is it really common to only plug in 1 or maybe 2 players each year from within the organIzation? If so, are we missing on draft picks or is the team's core just that strong that there's no room or opportunity for youth - or some combination with a coach that resists? Isn't that dangerous to allow a team to get older and try to ride it out without switching out a few pieces each year? What has really happened to highly-touted prospects like Pirri and Olsen and Beach (past regime) and.....even Morin? Were they overvalued internally (like Cub prospects?) or just need more time and opportunity to play?
Maybe that's happening (quietly) and we're just expecting too much?
Lots of questions - sorry. Just asking...... |

They will trade Plek way before Eller in order to open a spot for Galchenyuk at his natural position. Eller showed this PO that he is the 3rd line physical center that this team need and that he can also be efficient in a shutdown role.
Plekanec is a versatile player with a 50 pts production but time has come for Galchenyuk to play center. What's the asking price for Sharp? - Habsody
If I were the Hawks? Sharp and Leddy for Eller, Beaulieu and a 1st. |

8.5 is way low?????? Corey Perry is 8.5. So is Ryan Getzlaf….. I understand post season success counts and Toews is everything……. But Patrick kane is a one way player. Granted, the most exciting player I have ever seen, but I'm not breaking the bank for him. - yahoodi
Kane has been every bit as important as Toews has been in winning the Cups...
He is the best playmaker in the NHL and there is no stigma attached to being the best perimeter player in the league when you aren't afraid to go the net and the dirty areas.
They will both get the same money per year only difference is one may sign for one year longer than other but odds are same term same money.
My guess is close to $ 9 mill per... |

They weren't that dominant in the playoffs last year (except against the Kings), either. Let's go back two summers, after two straight first round exits - I bet some here are happy that Stan ignored their calls to "bust it up" then, too. |

Agreed. We need Kane as much as we need Toews. They bring different things to the team, but both are vital to our long term success. |

He has been a 50 pts player with meh wingers while being a shutdown guy. He would be a ridiculous upgrade on Handzus...Give him some big wingers and his size won't be much of a concern especially on a team like the Hawks considering their system. - Habsody
I would be an upgrade on Handzus. Not exactly a lot of big wingers on the Hawks. How many 1st ling wingers do the Habs have? That puts up 30? I am not degrading Pleks. But it makes no sense to make that deal for the small savings in cap space. And Plek is 30. |
