Pit had a lot of skill...But his gloves were cemented on and in those days that wasn't a good characteristic. - Al
Interesting. Thanks Al. |

The best part of the story and to show you how "loose" things were in those days....As same owners had pieces of 2 or 3 teams...
Ivan thought Cheevers was in the deal instead they got Norris who was a ham and egger and never amounted to anything. - Al
I know Al. How the (frank) do you think a guy is in the deal? Ivan may have been drunk, too. |

You want Kesler?
Look what garbage they got offered at the deadline, sandwiched around late first rounders in 2014 and less than prospective prospects.
I don't care about GM Benning's ideas or the fact that more centres now being available doesn't help the Canucks drive up the market.
Hawk fans, if you want Kesler,
you offer Seabrook ... and the deal is basically done.
If not, look to improve with quick big men on the wings who not only pound but are solid defensively ... and they will not come cheap...by trading others.

In his book, Espo claimed he and Hull were very drunk at the year end party and Bobby encouraged him to tell both Reay and Ivan they were going to screw the team up. Bobby didn't think he would do it but Phil had a big mouth and would do anything #9 put him up to doing.
The funny part was that the next day Phil went to Ivan's office to get his expense money and talk to him. Ivan wouldn't see him and told the secretary to tell him that he planned to never see him again. And then he was traded. - RickJ
That's pretty much what he said verbatim on a bio piece I watched on the NHL channel. |

But Wiz, it's more fun speculating on trading players the Hawks don't want or need then making a real trade proposal |

I think that version have been in Harvey Wittenberg's book too...The Bruins sent a goalie alright....The one that had trouble stopping a beach ball.

That's where the smoke started with Kesler in most places as Seabrook is from Vancouver and the money about washes.

I can certainly see them wanting him, and saying yes within a second. He's too valuable to the Hawks, imo. |

Marotte wasn't much better. He was soft as (frank)ing butter. You may enjoy this:
My Dad met Marotte one night after a game at bar. He walks up to Marotte and tells him hey I hear you guys are getting are new uniforms. Marotte responded with, we are?. My Dad then proceeded to tell him, yep. Skirts and blouses. |

It will take a lot more than a Kelser for Seabrook trade to right the ship there.
They screwed the pooch on two starting goalies and hitched their wagon to a group of players that could not win in the playoffs after they got to the Cup and failed. Gillis lasted a few years longer than he should have and Canuck fans will have to be patient. |

And they need back end help. Who will they want? Hint - I don't think Leddy is the answer. Probably not Oduya either.... |

It was a disgrace. Sorry. But those guys were wearing the National colours. It wasn't like they weren't trying. They were out of shape. And the Soviets were in peak physical condition. And were good. - Elbows15
Absolutely - up against the best team in the world at the time - took a lot of strange play (Bobby Clarke?) to win 3 and tie 1 in USSR. |

Yeah, those four years out of six with great results are a good reason to bust it up, especially when the core is (except perhaps Hossa) still in their prime. Shuffling some of the deck is fine - and happens every single year - busting up the core because the Corsi and Fenwick numbers looked good against entirely different groups in very small samples is silly, imo. - mohel
Eh they can't sustain the salary structure unless 19 and 88 sign for hella cheap.
Its just the nature of the cap. I'm ok moving Sharp + defender. It just has to happen. The defender(s) is debatable depending on return. 19 88 81 2 4 and probably 20 are the guys that are or need to be kept secure and you can argue 7 but there aren't many other places to cut. Hammer and Keith at their dollars arevridiculous and no one is eating Hossas. |

Strange? That was downright assault and battery. The Soviets were dirty, too.
And the magic of Henderson. |

Yep he played soft, Martin wouldn't never drop his gloves and a no name goalie...

Doesn't it figure Tretiak was scouted by Maple Leaf Jim Gregory who came back and told the Canadian players that he, Tretiak, couldn't stop a beachball .... OOOOPPS!!!! Seems the Leafs' scouting has always sucked. |

Alright, I'll offer Sharp (for either a 2C or a 3/4C and bottom six wing) or Leddy. I could even do both. Not having their top four defensemen (especially if Leddy plays top four) is a real step back, imo. That might be as close as we can get to a deal. |

Never know they have a log jam up the middle. Druin probs plays this year. Maybe oduya and Clendenin? |

He could be a decent option and Stan likely wouldn't have to give up too much. Still holding out for Neilsen. |
