Agree. He plays over 2o minutes per game. Leddy "might" be ready for more minutes but do you want that? The rest go to rockford kids - Cup-Bearer
Leddy's a much more valuable trading chip IMO at this point. |

Tampa needs defense,,,, so I don't think sharp is even a thought - tampabaydoompatrol
So who do you get for Leddy?
Haks could give Brrokbank some money and still have room over his salary

I'm happy that Stan has bowed out of the Kesler situation, at least for now. We all agree that we need a centre or 2, but we don't want to mortgage the future for Kesler or Spezza.
Zack Smith has been a favourite target of mine for a bottom 6 forward. Great cap hit, great face off %, and can spending time on the PK. Greening would be a good acquisition too, he would be a buy low situation after an off year.
JJ referenced a player from Tampa that would "would solve a gaping need on the Hawk roster". Off the top of my head Filppula fits the bill, but he was a hefty price tag at $5 million per season for 3 more years. Something would have to give cap wise (trades to free up cap space or salary retention).

I think he would be perfect for the hawks TBH. Both teams would be good trading partners. What would you guys be willing to give? |

If they bring in a $5MM skater now - even for Sharp, say - they still would have to lose at least one core player next year, when the new contracts (Toews, Kane, Saad, Kruger, Leddy, etc.) kick in. |

Lets try to stay rationale here...
Looking at the Hawks books....
1. We all read what Bowman said. he likes to view things 2-3 years out.
2. He said 19/88 is #1 priority and looking at the Hawks books you can see why.
3. So at the draft, IF he makes a major MOVE that tells you the 19/88 deals are done and are just a formality.
So for the sake of argument, lets pencil in 19/88 at 8.5 each. I think that's WAY low, but whatever. Every where I have read the cap will be 70-71 million based on final HRR numbers. Longer cup final goes, closer it creeps to 71. Lets say 71.
So as of today....you are at 66.429. You have 4.5 worth of space to sign Raanta, Smith, Morin. That's just THIS year. Say they magically make that work....but have little room left.
NEXT year.....cap has been said to jump another 6 million. So call it 77 million. When you add in 19/88 new deal...You have 67.283 locked up for 12 guys. Or you could say an additional 4 million bringing you up 71+ million for 15 guys (remember you got Raanta, Smith, Morin all under 14-15 cap for 4 million)
You then have all of 5+ million to sign......Kruger, Saad, Leddy, and Nordstrom. You are also letting Oduya, Rozsival walk...so you need to replace 2 more D men.
So again....how the hell do you add ALL these big salaries with not only trading a Sharp, but also a LEDDY and Oduya.
The internal debate right now may just very well be Oduya vs Leddy because after next year you can't keep both unless you trade another DECENT $$ Forward on top of Sharp.
So before we get all crazy with adding Stamkos OR Spezza or god knows who else....look at these numbers and make it work first......I just dont' see it happening UNLESS they trade TWO 4+ million CAP hit guys.
I also think Toews and Kane will cost an additional 1 million each...so as that number goes up...another current roster guy leaves.
Maybe Sharp realized that this spring, like Versteeg.Ladd/Buff all did I 2010 and it threw him off mentally. God only knows....but this cap thing is NOT good for the hawks, not unless some very cheap guys like Johns, TT, etc ALL slide in and contribute MIGHTLY. |

Sharp for Pleks and ??? - EKolb13
They can't add ANOTHER LT high money contract by just trading away Sharp and a Oduya or Leddy. Would have trade BOTH D guys.
The cap space doesn't work....All you save by adding Plekanec is 900K. that's not enough. |
