Brad Marchand for Patty Marleau?
http://www.csnne.com/bost...ble-marchand-marleau-deal
The Sabres really need to be kicking the tires on Marchand as well.
#63 in the black n' yellow played his junior hockey under Teddy Nolan, and attributes much of his success to the Sabres bench boss.
The 26 yr old goal scorer would project well as a top 6 forward for this young club. He's already on board with Nolan's philosophy, & would fit right in. I'd love to see him playing on a line with Girgensons.
Chara is getting older, while Dougie Hamilton is still wet behind the ears.. Ehrhoff could bridge that gap nicely.

I think the leafs did a pretty good job getting fleeced by the bruins I don't think we need to help them. Besides Marchand is dust anyways - Pegullaville
He's only 26 years old. He has a lot of years left, and he has some offensive talent. He still has value. Is he a good fit for the Sabres? I doubt it, but to say he's finished is completely false. |

Seriously, where do some of you guys come up with this stuff?
The kid is 26 yrs old, he's already an established 20-30g scorer, & he's a feisty guy who would run through a wall for our current head coach... He's a perfect fit for Buffalo!!
Yet because he criticizes some hotel and because of that he's now the bane of our city? Grow up already.
Clearly some of you selectively forget that even the great Jim Kelly didn't want to play for Buffalo when he's was drafted by the Bills! So much so that he elected to join the USFL rather than coming to Buffalo, and look how that turned out.

I'd rather have a guy like Marchand, who can play the agitator role and score than someone like Kaleta or Scott, who has no offensive talent to speak of, or who has no talent to speak of respectively. That being said: the most ideal scenario, like a lot of options brought on here lately is "none of the above". |

I hadn't read this one til now (sorry if it's a re-tread):
Bob McKenzie: “The Sabres are willing to buy first round picks by taking on big salary and then giving that player a compliance buyout” … “Tim Murray has let that be known to other teams” - stashu
Im not sure if I want them to do this, the last thing we need, is a NJ situation. The NHL steps in after the fact we do this, says we circumvented the CBA, and they remove our 2015 1st. |

It's only considered circumventing if the team that traded the bad contract re-signs that same player like what the leafs tried to do with tampa.
In any event i bet if the contract is short enough (like two years or so) they'll probably just hang on to it to reach the floor. |

How would this even work? One team trades us a first and an overpaid player for what in return ? |

It would be circumventing the CBA if we buy out a contract for a team such as Philly who already used their two buyouts. I could see the NHL stepping in afterwards, and penalizing both the Sabres and the Flyers in a situation like that. |

It would probably be at least a 2nd rounder like Cisco said. Again, I can't see any GM thinking taking salary off his hands alone is worth giving up a first round pick.
I know they tried that in the NBA a couple of years ago, but the league nixed it. I'm trying to find the news of the deal, but I can't remember the player that was involved.
EDIT: I believe this is it:
8-7-09: Denver trades Steven Hunter, 2010 first round pick (Dominique Jones), and cash to Memphis for a future second round pick (top-55 protected in 2016)
Basically Denver gave up a first for a second provided they took Steven Hunter off their hands. |

I forgot NY had no 1st in 2015.
I was gonna say. Trade a late 2nd to the Rangers for 2015 1st and Richards. Allows NY to buy out Nash and not have Richards contract. All of the sudden they have cap room |

For some reason, I have a feeling the Rangers won't buy out Nash, even if they can. Richards is a goner for sure, though. |

They shouldn't IMO. They might feel pressured to move him because of his lack of scoring in the postseason, but he's still a 35-40 goal guy. |
