The majority of defensemen making around 5.5 mil are NOT franchise defensemen. The franchise players who have that cap hit are in the small percentage of contracts that can be deemed "good" or "great".

I think you've coined that phrase just because of his salary. I'm not sure anyone here, even Mrs. Myers himself (sorry sbroads), is exclaiming Myers to be Sutter, Weber, Doughty, etc. He's going to be a damn solid #2 though, and those guys make that much.
