Kesler would be awesome.
The Hawks would swallow teams whole .
In any series Kesler line or Toews line could double up as a shut down line. - mrpaulish
While Kesler does have a Selke to his name, could you really use a line with Kane on it (even with his defensive improvement over the last few years) as a shut down line? Maybe swap Ben Smith up to play with Kesler and Saad in the last few minutes with a one goal lead? |

realistically, I get the feeling that Stan will do this on the cheap end and there won't be a big name coming in. We've heard it all before and not sure you'll see a lot of movement.
The Carolina lead is probably Riley Nash or someone with a little less of a name that could possibly be an asset the the Hawks structure.
Not expecting a bog splash. Not the Hawks style. |

Half the people would take this view and the other half would all be telling us "I told you Stan can't make a big trade." |

>JJ, very interesting
>Think the Hawks have their eyes on Filppula: 2C, 2-way player, Finnish (could possibly mentor TT down the road)
>Am hoping Hawks don't trade top-end talent for bottom 6 depth -- if you trade quality, you need quality in return
>Part of this years Kings march is that adding 3 players: Gaborik, Pearson, Tuffoli (full time) increased their SOG from 24 to 30 per game not to mention the added goals (and out with players like Fraser, Nolan, etc.)
>Pearson created more SOG in one playoff game than Fraser/Nolan combined for all of last year's playoffs
>It's interesting that Lombardi had to regularly ask Sutter to please play Pearson and Tuffoli before he finally relented and did so -- would Q have done so? Or stuck with "his guys"? |

What about calling Philly and working a deal for baby Schenn...could probably get both Braydon and Luke for HjAlmarsson.
That would give a viable #2 and some depth to offset the loss on D. |

Sadly, this is whats likely going to happen.. I have a bad feeling. The past 2 trade deadlines have been a letdown. I want a big splash already. |

But you don't need a big splash. A big splash will likely force you to give up your defensive depth and without much coming from Rockford in the short term, you're addressing one need while creating another.

At least they are better options than Scott Gomez or Ollie Jokinen. |

And I’m told there is at least one fairly major name the Hawks have inquired about under the radar.

I am interested in nobody in CAR other than Riley Nash. Right handed pivot, 25 and went 10-14-24 in 73 games with an even rating and 46% in the dot. He's owed $575K next season before becoming an RFA.
There is some upside to that move and having a lefty center at 1 and a young righty at 2 would be nice. That sounds more like the Hawks than any big move. |

don't you think its time for dahlbeck/clendening/ johns to get a shot? Olsen was abig body depth type and he really never got a look. Rosival is close to done and he will likely play less than this past season. Gotta give the kids a look at some point |

Good thing I refreshed before typing because I was going to say the same things!
While I'd love to have Toews, Kesler, and both Staal's as our 4 centers at what cost? No wingers to pass to and no d-men to cover up? We need center depth but we haven't had that since the Keenan days it seems. Make some cap friendly moves that allow us to extend 88&19 yet not purge the roster. I'm guessing Leddy is the most expendable and most valuable commodity of tradeable guys other than Sharp. My thoughts are trading your leading goal scorer causes a new problem though. |

Also add in a name like Franz Nielsen of the Islanders who might be sacrificed as part of the larger rebuilding effort there.
JJ can you elaborate a little more on this comment, bc the isles have been rebuilding and are trying to improve quickly bc of the move to Brooklyn & giving Sabres next years pick.
thanks.... |

Olsen got a couple of looks (albeit brief) and didn't look ready. I wonder how this past season would have played out had the Hawks tried to send down Kostka instead of Stanton.
Edit: That's it! Oduya for Kostka. |

Don't limit thoughts to center when talking about Tampa or Carolina. Think goalie....
Lindback and Khudobin would be great cap friendly choices for backups to Crawford. I have a feeling the FO is not impressed with Raanta. |

that was really a boneheaded move by StanBo..stanton is a nice depth guy the hawks could use next year especially |

That's hard to say without having seen them play. From everything you read on here, Dahlbeck is the most NHL ready. Clendenning is a disaster in his own end. Johns just had a tryout with Rockford, so needs more time.
Olsen was really, really slow of foot. He had a look-see, 28 reg season games, and didn't impress.
I won't argue about giving the kids a look, when they are ready. Look at TT...he isn't ready. |

IMO thats really addressing a non issue
I think Bowman is wasting his own time by exploring that avenue at the moment
Besides, Khudobin is the #1 in Carolina now. They know it and its why they are trying to move Ward |

Cant play Crawford 80 games again. Need a reliable #2. |
