Do you really think Kadri/JVR is any less of a fantasy than Ladd/Slater? - Ogilthorpe2
Agreed.
In fact, just about every trade thing tossed around here is fantasy. It will remain that way until a trade is made. |

Blow it up? Ehhhh. The 2010 roster was more correctly built in the traditional sense. Legit 4 C down the middle and they were a BIG team. Ladd, Brouwer, Buff, Kopecsky (sp), Eager.. The 13 team.. still don't know how they survived the Cup series. Boston was huge and pounded the hell out of them. Health played a huge part in the series as Hawks were hanging in there with 4 lines. Well Hoss was playing on one leg.. friggin warrior.
So they won 2 Cups with two very different teams. Lack of a consistent 3rd and 4th line was their undoing this playoff. I don't know if I want Sharp to go because he brings a lot to the team. But, the league is taking the style the Hawks are playing and improving on it. Possession/skilled teams with size to play the game either way. Ice really shrinks in the playoffs and the smaller/skill guys tend to have a hard time. So if a Sharp trade brings back a C/big W or both, then Im for that. Kane needs a another C besides 19 to play with for we know Q constantly moves 19/88 around with different line mates.
The Ladd/Slater trade is fantasy I know. Kadri/JVR would be the trade to do. Unknown if that is even a trade on the table, but with Toronto know talking about moving Dion, maybe they are blowing that team up to re-build around Kessel. Stan can move Rozy and hopefully Steeg to create more room, but if these rumors are true that a NEW #2 C will be in Chicago then a "core" piece might have to go.
We all thought the Bears would never get Cutler and wammmoo. It happened. Perhaps this is the year Stanley takes that big swing at the plate. - z1990z
That is what they miss from 10. That roster was built for a full season - they could punish, be punished and play. Last year's roster could take punishment, dish it some and really play. This year's could play. Aside from the Blue's series - where they gave some - they pretty much just took hits the rest of the POs and regular season.
JJ is obviously hearing that the FO recognizes the need for size as well as depth up the middle. Hope they do something about it. Maybe a Pouliot from the rags (UFA) or Thompson from TB??? If they go for Nielson I would love to see Martin in that package. |

This.
And that's the only reason I was rooting for NY last night. I'm jealous the Hawks haven't gotten to clinch on home ice...yet - Ogilthorpe2
I think we would be happy if they clinched in Wichita, as long as they clinch.

Agreed, but it would be a pleasantly raucous atmosphere in the UC if they ever clinched on home ice. I'd like to see that, preferably in the flesh. |

During the season, yes. However, there wee quite a few of us who read the writing on the wall and thought Bolland was going to move at last year's draft. Some of us had Frolik pegged to go too.
Anyways, it's all in good fun for the most part, and gives us something to debate about. |

the 2010 team during the season was like giving up on average like 20 shots on net a game and maybe like 2 to 3 scoring chances a game. Ofc they had some bad games. |

Yep. Even the talk of unloading Versteeg is a long shot. Strong possibility Uncle Dale no longer covers half of his cap hit if he is traded. Have not been able to verify it but it was mentioned when the trade was made. If so, the only way his hit goes is via waivers (a la Huet) or LTIR. |

I didn't understand the reason Frolik got moved. He brought a lot more to the table then Versteeg.

Don't know why, but Chicago seems to be the jilted ex lover with the media. The coastal teams are fawned over while Chicago gets a half nod. All this is extra motivation for Toews and Co. to come back with a vengeance. Just imagine had Boston won the Cup last year... OMG we would never hear the end of it. Not gonna take anything away from LA. They made it happen. Puck luck, lucky bounces... be damned. Effort creates chances. LA just had more in the tank when it counted. LA I can handle winning it. NY, SJ, Anaheim.... oh noooooooooo.
I have no doubts this team will come back next year. Just need some rest and a little roster help. (Stanley are you listening????????????????????) - z1990z
The obvious - and probably true - answer is: there no national media within 1,000 miles of Chicago - it's all in New York and LA (and Bristol).
Remember Saul Steinberg's cover for the New Yorker - a view of the world from 9th Avenue. |

I believe the idea of moving Frolik involved creating more cap space for the upcoming season, and to hopefully make a bigger splash for a playoff push. While Frolik was very good, paying a guy that kind of cap hit to ride the 4th line didn't make much sense.
Versteeg was supposed to be that "big splash." We know how that worked out. Great idea, bad outcome. |

2.3 m cap hit. I think they believed having Zus and Frolik as PK specialists was overkill, needed cap space, and wanted to force Q into playing a rookie. Instead, we got Zus forced on Kane. Zus is a heart and sole player but a possession nightmare this year and last - no place here particularly with Kane. |

If Versteeg would just simplify his game he would be fine. He has skills around the net and does better with a dump/chase mind set. Yet he continues to dangle the puck ala-Gretz at the blue line and gets stripped of the biscuit. When healthy he skates well and is not afraid to go to the corners. |

cap issues. Versteeg got picked up during the season at a supposed deal - half price and hopefully add some offense and experience ( a gamble coming off of major knee surgery). With bickel getting his monster raise and signing of Khabby and lowering of the cap, somebody had to go. And Frolik and Bolland were it. SB thought farm hands could step up and fill in. |

I guess we'll see what next season brings. Didn't Bowman elude to him being a part of the team next season in his "state of the team" address after the Kings knocked them out of the "real" Stanley Cup Final? |

He did and he was still pretty early in coming back from that knee injury. I remember watching a few Panther games before his injury and he was playing well. Rest and a good summer off season should see a "better" Versteeg.
Maybe he needs a new jersey number. Perhaps his inverted 32 is screwing him up. |

That I know. Point was I would have rather kept Frolik then brought Versteeg back. Yes Frolik was making big $$ for his role, but he was an all purpose PK demon.
