I am looking at the situation a different way. If you can tap Kane (by giving him someone to play with) so he can explode offensively like we know he can do, then losing last season's leading scorer will not hurt as much. Think about it, if the 2nd line becomes a focus for teams to stop, then the 1st line can pick up the slack. It works the other way also. Minor tweeks may not maake that kind of impact.

Kane has been the Ferrari that has been driven mostly on side streets. The few times he has been on the highway we have seen how he can play. He needs to be on the highway all the time.

I feel ya, but it could be a starting point. Not sure Leddy is solid enough in their eyes given their problems....Johnny is also a little long in tooth by himself, so maybe Duya and Bickell for both Schenn's.
- juiced

I would do that. How much of a cap hit are both schenns? I would rather trade leddy but oduya is probably more to their liking

Sam Gagner, 24, C – 35g 83a 118p 2006-07 London Knights
Patrick Kane, 25, R – 62g 83a 145p 2006-07 London Knights

Gagner's a bit expensive with a 4.8m cap hit for the next two years. But if they work their magic like they did in London that year, it may be worth a try.

I'm not so bothered by that. It's Ganger's $4.8 million cap hit that bugs me.

OHL success does not always translate into NHL success. Sure, they would play well together as they are both talented. However Gagner's cap hit is too high and overall I just think Stan can do better.

I agree...if people are shy away from Gagner because of his size what will they think of TT.

I read on one of these posts that one of either Leddy or Oduya might need to move..... I know Ottawa was big on Hjalmarsson in the past and B. Murray wants a gritty fwd.

pieces can be added to either side on this, but the main structure could be:

To Chicago - Spezza + Weircoch
To Ottawa - Hjalmarsson + Bickell

- GadesnSens

Hjalmarsson isn't going anywhere anytime soon bub

He can play with an edge (7 career fights). Plus he had a terrible year (partially due to that broken jaw), so I think you could get the oilers to eat some of his salary for the right trade. Gagner at 3.5m per for two years might be worth a try.

I really don't think that the 2C needs to be solved at any cost. They won Cups with Sharp and Handzus. The 2nd line looked fine after Q put speed and possession with Kane. That first line beside Toews was a big disappointment in the Kings series. I would trade Rozsival and 27th for Smid at 50 % retained for a PKer and 3rd pair. Then trade Sharp, Leddy, and Morin for JVR and the 8th.

JVR-Toews-Kane

Saad-X-Hossa

Bickell-Shaw-Smith

Nordstrom-Kruger-Bollig

Keith-Hjalmarsson

Oduya-Seabrook

Smid-X

- Madkymike

I like the idea of JVR and the 8th. Even though he isn't popular here I would expand it for Kadri. Somehow get JVR, Kadri, and the 8th. And I might play JVR and kadri on 1 line. Bickell-Toews-Hossa, Saad-shaw-Kane, JVR-kadri-smith. 3 solid scoring lines

I couldn't see JVR & Kadri playing outside of the top 6.

To me it is about top 9 and not top 6. Just keep rolling the 3 lines pretty evenly. It would be very hard to match up against that kind of depth. I guess you could put JVR with toews and try Kadri with Kane. Then the other line is bickell-shaw-smith. I still like to spread out scoring

If I see another proposal with Hammer involved i might throw up. This guy was our best yes best d-man from rounds 1-3 and he is signed a serious contract that truly was hometown discount. Leddy is a big trade chip as is Sharp.

I for one think as much as Saad has improved and won alot of people over he is an option as well. Saad had 20+ goals this year. Sharp is a 30 goal scorer and snatched 5.9 from the hawks. It's possible to see Saad have 30 next year. He is going to want to get paid. If he is one of the asking prices that brings back a long term lock in our second line center position I am not opposed and that's all I have to say.

I did see brayden Schenn's name mentioned and he would be a young option that brings tenacity and physicality as well as skill to our line up. If a Leddy straight up for Schenn deal can be made I wouldnt be opposed to that either.

If the price was right you would think so. Leddy, Sharp + pick?

The only #2C (within reason) I'd be ok trading Sharp for Kesler. An all USA line of Saad/Kesler/Kane would be dirty plus Kesler plays defense. Something that alot of the other guys that have been listed don't do.

Vermette from Phoenix would be nice but I'm not overpaying for him. Spezza I'd like but I'm not overpaying for a guy who might only be here for a year, there would have to be an extension involved if the Hawks are trading a marquee guy(s) in that deal. Brad Richard's best days are behind him.

Actually if Mike Richards is bought out, I'd be interested in him. I think he's best suited for an up tempo team like the Hawks but that being said he's probably going to ask from somewhere in the range (year/term) that LeCavalier got last year from Philly. Anyone from Tampa not named Stamkos, no.

Indeed. Carter brings a lot to the table.
