He was fine on KT line ,this leaves Ryan free to help Zibby on the second line. Now if Lazar makes the team. Most likely as a winger ,he will need support .Berglund looks like a decent fit ,but iam thinking they could use a hard player added to the bottom 6 .Neil has lost a step and will need help so this is my reasoning
- top shelf 15
nothing would make me happier than to get rid of the entire 4/3 line of neil, smith, and greening.
well, other than #trademelnyk |

It was announced that berglund has a serious shoulder injury, and requires surgery. I can't imagine there is any chance ottawa touches him now |

Smith is a good player, who was anchored to two plugs.......I have no problem with rolling him out as our 3rd or 4th line center, as long as he has linemates who actually know how to play hockey |

well, other than #trademelnyk - sen_smile These 2 along with condra on the forth line is perfect.Neil will be our kassian this year playing only when necessary ,So far i have Lazar penciled in as the teams 3rd line winger. We have parts like hoffman, pageau, decosta if he signs .But not much that fits the bill in what we need imho

i agree.... but smith is the most tradeable of the three, and we have center depth. |

im a huge condra supporter... even if on third line for now. we have puemple, prince (if he relaxes), pageau, grant etc., plus hoffman and stone. im comfortable with one of stone / hoff up in top 6, but having both feels a bit thin.. of course, i guess it all depends on who we get back in the spez deal.
wonder what's up with berg / st. louis now that injury disclosed....
EDIT: plus lazar. ha, forgot prolly one of the most important prospects. |

Was stone's injury serious enough to require surgery?
If berglund is still in the package, the other assets had better improve |

I am fairly flexible on who they deal with or what they get back.
As long as it is a good asset, it has value.
Maybe Smith-Pelley and the #10 2014 would be about right.
Or, a straight up 1 for 1 for Jossi or Lindholm.

Strongly disagree that Smith with Condra and Greening is a perfect 4th line.
Condra I like, but Greening has been shown by stats and the eye test both to be a more or less useless player. If you don't score, hit. If you don't hit, score. If you can't do either, at least block shots or play good positional defence or something. He can't seem to any of these things very well or with any consistency so dump him.
As for Smith, I am much more willing to give him another chance than Greening, but he has to smarten up. Smith hurt the Senators more than he helped them last year, if only because of all the dumb minor penalties he took. And no, most of them weren't penalties for hitting too hard, but rather lazy stick infractions. I think he can rebound, but if he doesn't, Condra-Smith-Greening is |

Unless a gm says a prospect is untouchable (ie. Murray saying he isn't moving lazar) then a fan saying it doesn't make it true.
I think either of those players, plus a 2nd rd pick or B prospect, would be a very fair return for spezza |

If Melnyk keeps being so cheap, how long before Karlsson wants out? At some point he will get tired of it and so will most vets unless they are just happy to have a job in the NHL or some young player that just wants to play in the NHL and prove he belongs. - dcz28
This exactly!!! All I need to believe this story is how Alfie was treated and the fact that Jason Spezza has been NOTHING but class in the 11 years he's been here. Melnyk is killing this franchise and we'll lose Karlsson before all is said and done. BRUTAL!!! |

This was announced back in mid-April, before playoffs even started, that Berglund's shoulder injury would likely require surgery in the offseason. Guess it might be news to Ottawa fans who don't follow the Blues at all, but it's certainly not a new development in trade negotiations.
7 of Blues top 10 forwards were injured to end the year and wouldn't have been playing if it was regular season. That's what gives so many outside fans the false impression we are desperate for offense. Too many guys were hurt in the playoffs and it killed their production, but we were 7th in the league in GF. That's why Blues aren't as desperate to trade for Spezza as Ottawa fans would like. Offense wasn't that big of an issue. Health was. |

Yes! Absolutely. Old player, time to reinvest in future. Detroit is about discover just ow foolish it is to try and hang on to the past. Time and age is relentless. You either get younger or you just age to the point of being a marginal plYer. How many more years does Detroit want to start the year with the upside goal of competing for a playoff berth. - spatso
Don't you ever get tired of being wrong? How did your predictions of Ottawa finishing well ahead of Detroit and Detroit not even making the playoffs work out for you? You should probably stop talking about the Wings because you keep showing how little you actually know about them. You seem to have some massive inferiority complex when it come to the Wings. Probably has something to do with you growing up a Leaf fan with them not winning anything in so long while the Wings have made the playoffs for over 2 decades straight winning a couple of cups and making the finals a couple of more times in that span. |

Well, you know, it's probable if we just keep predicting you miss the playoffs every year, eventually we will get to say "I told you so."
At least, I hope the Red Wings don't make the playoffs every year from now until eternity |

the conn smythe trophy goes toooooo:
A Canadian born hockey player
who would have guessed?!?!
suk it tommy devito - conor_smythe
Lol, you're such a (frank)ing putz.
I laughed at you for saying 99% of the time canadians win, when 6 of 8 previous had not been canadians.
Now its 6 of 9.
So literally 2/3 of the conn smythes awarded in the last decade went to non-canadians.
Justin williams being awesome doesn't make your original comment any less dumb.

Sorry, just not a fan of old teams. Don't like watching them. Don't like talking about them. |
