Lol, you're such a (frank)ing putz.
I laughed at you for saying 99% of the time canadians win, when 6 of 8 previous had not been canadians.
Now its 6 of 9.
So literally 2/3 of the conn smythes awarded in the last decade went to non-canadians.
Justin williams being awesome doesn't make your original comment any less dumb. - TommyDeVito

Well, you know, it's probable if we just keep predicting you miss the playoffs every year, eventually we will get to say "I told you so."
At least, I hope the Red Wings don't make the playoffs every year from now until eternity - Mr_Clean
Likely they will end up missing them at some point...most likely when Datsyuk and Zetterberg are done. Unless they can find that #1 center with lower picks or trade for one which is easier said than done. |

Sorry, just not a fan of old teams. Don't like watching them. Don't like talking about them. - spatso
For someone that doesn't like talking about them, you sure seem to do it often. Not surprised you don't watch them because you show how little you know about them every time you do talk about them. Who the hell wants to watch old players like Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Sheahan, Mrazek, Ouellet, Marchenko, Sproul, Pulkkinen, Smith, DeKeyser, Kindl, Helm, Abdelkader, Andersson, Kindl, Almquist, Callahan. Not to mention how boring it is to watch Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Kronwall play |

Did you guys start winning before the injuries happened, or after the young guys were called up?

That's hardly a honest question, you know the answer to that question and so does he. The Wings found gems within their prospect pool, or else they wouldn't even have Playoffs in their minds. |

I think that is Calgary just doing Murray a favor and stoking the demand a little for him. I have heard three or four trades suggested that makes sense for me. |

I honestly don't know when their string of injuries started, and I also don't know when they started turning their season around......hence, I was honestly asking.
I was wondering if they were already winning when they called up the young guys, or was it perhaps the infusion of talented youth that turned it around |

That and where does he play. I wouldn't be inclined to give him a top-6 role unless Stone flops next year, which I doubt. |

I would
Mac - Turris - stone
Michalek - zibby - Ryan
Nice balance. Gives puempel another year to develop in the AHL |

I'd be fine with that too. 2 year at no more than 4 million per would be ok. I would prefer to keep him in the 3-3.5 range though |

They did fine early on despite not having Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan and others in the lineup and having useless players like Cleary and Sammy instead. Then Babcock had no choice but to play those young players and realize that those old washed up players should have never played in the first place. Both Tatar and Nyquist outplayed every forward not named Datsyuk or Zetterberg in camp and pre-season but according to Babcock Cleary, Bertuzzi, Samuelsson (all of them looked like complete garbage) were tied in terms of performance and he gave the "tie breaker" to the vets hence Nyquist starting in Grand Rapids and Tatar starting the first 7 or 9 games as a healthy scratch.
Babcock is a good coach but he sure does some stupid things. He loves certain no talent plugs and plays them over way better players. He kept Quincey and Smith as a pair when everyone could see that together they were the worst defense pair in the league. Putting Abdelkader on the top line with Datsyuk saying that "Datsyuk needs someone to pull the piano for him to play it" when it's clear that Abdelkader isn't pulling the piano, he is the piano that Datsyuk wrecked his knee pulling around the ice. Players getting injured forced Babcock to rely on those kids that were better than some of the vets he likely would have kept going with.
That being said, having a healthy team with their best players playing along with some of those good young players replacing those washed up guys to begin with would have made them a lot better and less likely a team fighting for a playoff spot later in the season when all the injuries happened and they were down 4 centers all at the same time. |

I don't think breaking up the Mac-Turris-Ryan line is a good idea. Sure it spreads the offense a bit, but those 3 have great chemistry and the potential to put up 60points each next season. |

Loading up one line isn't a good idea, IMO.
Make pairs, and them compliment them with a 3rd linemate.

This seems to be a habit that MacLean picked up from him, always playing veterans who "try hard" over younger guys who are legitimately getting the job done.
I don't get it. |

It's beyond frustrating Luke (frank)ing Glendening playing 13 to 15 minutes a night against top players on the other team when he can't win faceoffs, can't shut down the opposition and is a black hole for offense and possession. Babcock raved more about him than any other of the young players that played yet he belongs in the AHL. Lashoff is big but isn't good defensively, provides no offense or puck moving ability and not very physical yet Kindl or Smith were being scratched and he played all the time. Smith is a PP guy and an offensive defenseman (not the best defensively to say the least) yet he sees no PP time and Babcock uses him only on the PK.
I'm really happy the Wings locked up Blashill for another 3 years because if Babcock leaves after this season I won't be very sad. I think Blashill could take over and have similar success as Cooper did with Tampa because he played the kids in key roles which is what I would think Blashill would do knowing the kids from having coached them up the last 2 years. Babcock also favors size over skill which is why Abdelkader was getting top line minutes while Tatar was on the 3rd or 4th lines...where Abdelkader belongs. |

So, I guess nobody wants Hudler, Backlund and Wideman plus a 2nd and 3rd round pick for Spezza. An offer like that has to have some purpose. They know that Ottawa and Spezza would decline. But they are trying to start some kind of opening. Maybe they are signaling their interest in a big ticket item, perhaps Phaneuf. |

Ottawa moving spezza has to do with 3 things......money, age, injury history.....so that deal makes no sense for the Sens.
Sending out 7 mil to bring back 11 mil
2 of the guys we get back are over 30
Wide man just missed half the season, backlund has missed like 60-65 games over the last 3 years.
Not saying it's not a fair deal, but given the situation, I'd rather keep spezza |

I bet you you Bobby Ryan will likely be traded (at the trade deadline 2015) -- Maybe Melynk won't pony up the dough.
