Well, if we get berglund back, and they play him at center, then I'd go:
Turris/mac/stone
Zibby/ryan/fa/michalek??
Berglund /lazar/fa/stewart
Smith/greening/condra
neil 13th forward
- sensarmy_11 Those lines while not filled with all stars ,do have some pretty decent balance.BTW i just reused your post my friend it was just easier |

Blues reportedly offering Berglund, Cole, 2014 1st round pick for Spezza.
I personally don't like it. - TheCalSen
Cole is the issue there, he's just a totally replaceable asset.
He's basically slightly better than Gryba or Boro would be in the same spot. |

It's especially concerning when you consider berglund's surgery......who knows what he'll be like after, could miss some serious time
We could end up getting a broken asset, a 6-7 dman, and a pick |

Shattenkirk/rattie is a MUCH better package.
Berglund is a 2nd liner, at best. Cole is a bottom pairing guy. The best asset in that package might be the pick at 21 - sensarmy_11
Murray does not need to hit a home run. He needs a solid second/third line center (or top 4 D) and a very good prospect. Or, he needs the second/third line center with a bottom 6 player (or Dman) and a mid round pick.
I think you cannot discount the importance of reasonably priced assets, picks and prospects. This is just one transaction.
Murray will still do a trade deal for a hard forward (preferably a guy who will get top 6 minutes). |

Why do we need a bottom pair dman? We have a whole team full of them.
Sorry, but when you're trading a franchise player, you should expect a homerun.......and if not a homerun, then atleast not an injured player and a plug |

If there is a follow up deal coming. It will be the one that matters. If some part of the assets get rolled over or enable the Senators to close a deal for Evander Kane or ROR we won't care exactly what the return has been.
I don't get excited by the initial noise around what is going to happen. Often, the final deal is done with a dark horse team. Despite what is being reported don't count out Florida, Philadelphia or the Rangers in the East. My dark horses in the West are Pheonix, Chicago and LA.
For teams that are hard against the cap, Spezza has a spectacular contract (one year) where Ottawa can retain 1/2 the cap hit and allow the new team to negotiate a long term more cap friendly deal. |

One could argue that the cole, Berglund and 1st offer is similar to the bobby Ryan trade. And if that's what is being reported now the actual package will likely be better |

I just don't see the STL trade as coming to fruition. Berglund is injured and will require surgery. I don't think injured players can be traded.
Cole? Who the F is Cole?
Give me a 1st, Rattie and Shattenkirk for Spezza (50% retained), Prince and Gryba... That's when we can start talking...
Think about it this way, what would it cost the Sens to trade for Berglund straight up? Maybe a 2nd and a B level prospect? Don't over value Berglund so much. |

Say you do the deal with Anahiem and you get Smith-Pelley and the #10 back.
To Winnipeg: Lazar, Lehner and #10 2014.
You might not do that deal (I would not) but it is enough. Many variations would work. Actually easier to work out a deal with Colorado. They need D and they want to contend now.

I'm not saying it's not fair. But not a good message to be sending as a club I think. |

When I said "who's worth it" I wasn't implying offering a massive overpayment, was thinking of something realistic |

I think your right. Don't over estimate Berglund but also don't under estimate spezza.
Rattie and Shattenkirk are who is like to see coming back but I think Prince and gryba aren't worth very much. |

I want a good return for Spezza as much as the next guy.but we have to think reasonable here.Every GM knows we arent interested in signing him ,and he will be moved come hell or high water.Iam on board with what spats has been saying ,i think there is another deal and fa signing to be had still |

I believe Kane will be dealt and it will be expensive. So, you have to think it is the list of usual suspects, a top 6 player (Lehner), a top prospect (Lazar) and a first. You can tone the offer down (Lehner and Stone). But the point being Ottawa has the assets to do a big deal if Spezza brings them back something similar to what they paid for Ryan. |

I have a blind spot when it comes to Kane. Just love the hard edge to his game. When Murray keeps talking about wanting a hard top 6 player I think Evander Kane and say a small prayer. |

Meh, Kane is good, but not a player I'd mortgage the future on. |

That would be a terrible deal.
I know everyone has a hard on for Lazar but Lehner is the real prize in that deal. I would not trade Lehner straight up for Kane!
The fact is that Lehner will soon be our goalie of the future and if the Sens will be a team that wins championships or contends in the next decade it will be on the back of Lehner more so than on the back of Karlsson! |
