Would not trade Cooter in that deal. Doubt St. Louis would do a straight up trade, Cooter for Shattenkirk and would question Hexy if he did it. - HockeyDog
I wouldn't either. I'm just looking at things from St Louis point of view. Thats what I would ask for and probably wouldn't settle for anything less. |

I wouldn't be surprised if chicago had interest in VL if they miss out on kesler, stasny, etc and can clear some cap room. A 2C is something they have coveted for some time. Other teams might fit that bill as well. - moylander
I don't think so. They are totally cash strapped and have Toews and Kane ready to break the bank. Shaw is 22 and had a better season than VL last year.
I think they make a move for Kesler or stand pat at Center.
I believe the VL trade will be with a Canadian team or a small market team. |

The Flyers do not have the worst pipline in hockey by a long shot. The Capitals have 1 legit future NHL player in their system IMO. - mochoson
The Flyers' pipeline is drier than Betty White.

I do believe Berube views him more then just a #5 d-man. He's going to play close to or over 20 minutes/night IMO. Considering, this team will probably always be in the top third of penalty minutes, AMac shouldn't have that tough of time reaching that time played with his PK work.
Bottom line, I think we can all agree the blueline will continue to be tweaked this offseason. - ravishingone
I'm not sure what they view him as. But in my view, MacDonald is a solid all around top 4 defenseman. Or at best, a compliment to a true #1. I think he'll get 20 minutes a game for sure. But he's not a top pairing defenseman. Flyers may be forced to use him that way, but I think that he will struggle in that role at times.

As the Flyers have arguably the worst farm system in all of hockey, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Blues have more than we do in the pipeline. - johndewar
Trading one roster and one prospect for a top d pairing guy. Our farm system is a long way from being fixed, but the repairs can and will start with Hexy. Meanwhile we need a d-man for the next 3 years that can eat 20 plus minutes a night a actually move the puck. |

I think they could have moved Mez for practically nothing. I don't think they felt it was worth trading him for a late round pick. It was better to hang on to him as the 6th/7th defenseman.
I could be wrong though. VLs deal is on a different level though. Mez only had 1 year left. - PhillySportsGuy
Perhaps they could have, but Mez's contract was tough with the cap being down this year.
A lot of teams simply couldn't absorb that deal -- hell, the only reason Boston could was because Seidenberg went on LTIR with that broken leg
I'm not gonna go round and round with MJL on this all night. I am just really hopeful that if the Flyers find a way to get out of Vinny's deal, after being able to remove Bryzgalov, they don't just jump right back into a contract that I truly believe people will despise in three years -- and it will have four more years to go |

You mean like trading Scottie Upshall and a second-round pick so Claude Giroux could get promoted?
Yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you really, really, really don't want to be doing that just because you are locked down on the cap and locked in with tough contracts - AllInForFlyers
Again that's just one example. And it was the right move. Bottom line is you don't decline to make a move that makes the team better, because a young player, might, and I emphasize might, be on his way up. There's always numerous options. |

Agreed.
Theres also a rumor from Edmonton that has B.Schenn & Coburn headed there for David Perron & either Oscar Klefbom or Mark Maracin.
Id be ok with that, so long as its a first move with a forward traded to add a defenseman - Jsaquella
That's an interesting deal proposal. |

Are we really okay with trading Coburn for Perron? With what teams expect from us for a top 4 D-man I sure as poop want more than just Perron back for a guy in his prime. |

Forgot about that. I think the Flyers ate the rest of Mez deal anyway.
I think trading VL will require eating some salary or taking back another unfavorable contract. Several people mentioned Stalberg. I wouldn't hate that. |

Lecavlier (30% retained salary) + Coburn + Laughton + 17th pick
for
Rights to Kulikov, 1st overall (Ekblad), Bergenheim (salary dump)
How close is this to being a fair deal? I would be enticed, but losing Laughton and that 17th pick hurts our prospect depth. However, I've seen nothing but deals about revamping our D the past few days. This would qualify. Just shooting poop.

I'm sure as hell not OK with it -- we don't have enough defensemen like Coburn as it is. Why would we move the only one we have? |

Ideally, I believe AMac would work well with Streit, let's call that the 2nd pairing. Also, I think they would like to have Kimmo possibly pair with a youngster and mentor. That leaves one more pairing, and I really have no clue where Hexy will go.

The Flyers also have an extremely young core. This is what doesn't worry me about the Phantoms right now. We have plenty of time to re-stock the system. A team like San Jose or Boston... not so much. |

Not neccesarily. You think that theyre content? Traded a ton of assets to lose in round one...who knows if theyre open to moving Shattenkirk or
Bouwmeester - Jsaquella
No, just don't think they'd also give him away either. |

I think the deal also included a top Edmonton defensive prospect and Bryaden Schenn.
This deal was contingent upon the Flyers getting someone else like Phaneuf. |

How close are the Phillies to a world series this year?
To get the first overall the Flyers would have to include one of Giroux, Voracek or Coots. And if it's one of the later two, multiple 1st rounders as well. |

I would be flat-out terrified to depend on a pairing of Streit-MacDonald against top 8 teams in the league, the kinds of teams you have to go through to win a Cup.
I mean, wow. Just thinking about what the Kings would do to that pairing...we can't win a Cup like that. |

So B. Schenn, Haag or Alt plus for Shattenkirk would be horrible for St. Louis? |
