The off-season creates way too much time to do this kind of stuff - ob18
We are all guilty of it. But I just love seeing the deals that give the Flyers the number one overall and they just give up their trash that no one wants. |

I think the deal also included a top Edmonton defensive prospect and Bryaden Schenn.
This deal was contingent upon the Flyers getting someone else like Phaneuf. - PhillySportsGuy
I just don't see the point in it. Perron a big enough edition in my mind. If BSchenn and Coburn are going to EDM it has to be Eberle or Nail coming back. Nothing less. |

How close are the Phillies to a world series this year?
To get the first overall the Flyers would have to include one of Giroux, Voracek or Coots. And if it's one of the later two, multiple 1st rounders as well. - hereticpride
Yeah your over-thinking that way to hard. Were basically taking about Aaron Ekblad here. Your crazy if you think that's what a 1st overall pick costs. |

Didin't they get shutout today and lose a home series to the Cubs? They've become laughing stocks.
The entire Philadelphia sports landscape is about as depressing as it can be. |

I don't think I'd do it if I were St Louis. While they could use a player like Schenn moving Shattenkirk does then create a hole on D.
Plus I am on the draft & develop plan, landing Shattenkirk still won't make the Flyers a cup contender. |

The 1st overall pick wouldn't cost what most people think it costs. We have the resources to acquire it.

I know. I agree with this. I don't want to part with them unless I have an established dman coming back. Perron has had serious concussion issues too. |

I would be flat-out terrified to depend on a pairing of Streit-MacDonald against top 8 teams in the league, the kinds of teams you have to go through to win a Cup.
I mean, wow. Just thinking about what the Kings would do to that pairing...we can't win a Cup like that. - AllInForFlyers
Again, it is only June, there is time to retool the blueline. Granted, this d core will not have a Drew Doughty type this season. However, to think having a d core having three slots occupied with Streit, AMac, and Kimmo can't be competitive in the East, I think is absurd. I'm sorry, I don't think these guys are bums. They are NHL d-men, and it will be interesting to see how Hexy fills the other three slots.

I just don't understand the desire to trade Coburn -- I think it would make grown men cry to see this defense try to skate without Coburn playing 22 hard-as-hell minutes every night |

I dont really like Kulikov anyway - PhillySportsGuy
IMO, he's a classic case of a really good young player who will never thrive in his current situation. By the time the Panthers are a legit contender, this guy's confidence will be shot to poop or he'll be in the KHL.
I personally think he's awesome. Maybe not 1st pairing awesome, but just my opinion. |

Coburn is an adequate # 2. Flyers are still in desperate need for that stud on the backend. Unfortunately it seems he's nowhere on the horizon. |

I'm sorry, I just totally disagree -- you are talking about doing exactly what made the Islanders so porous defensively: Playing guys like MacDonald and Streit against competition they simply can't handle.
Timonen's 40 years old! He should be playing fewer, less difficult minutes, not more and harder shifts |

I do. This is our last chance to include him in a deal that could get us a 1st pairing defensemen. Two years left with a fair cap hit.
We can't sign him long term. The way I look at it, is we have our 2nd pairing signed long term in Stret + AMac. Schenn is your guy that anchors the third pair.
If we move him now and package him with B. Schenn, Laughton, Lecavlier, or Hartnell (whoever, really), we could realistically acquire a younger guy that could be here for the foreseeable future. |

That's going a little far I think.. Sure the Phillies are terrible and the light at the end of the tunnel hasn't been spotted yet but the Flyers are still a good young team that just need a few holes plugged.
The eagles showed a lot of promise last year and seem like they might do some damage this year.
I don't really follow the Sixers but they have 2 high picks in what seems to be a fairly deep draft.
Things could be much darker in Philadelphia. Just be grateful you're not a Browns fan. |

You're either drastically over valuing a 3rd round pick, or drastically under-rating Kulikov.
I'd think you were joking with me if I was Tallon and you offered that. |

It's really just the Phillies. Eagles, Flyers, Sixers all trending upwards, especially the Sixers.

I agree that he alone doesn't make us cup contenders, but allows us to grow our young guys while still be competitive. The only defenceman we have next year that is somewhat can handle 20+ minutes is Coburn. |
