I'm sorry, I just totally disagree -- you are talking about doing exactly what made the Islanders so porous defensively: Playing guys like MacDonald and Streit against competition they simply can't handle.
Timonen's 40 years old! He should be playing fewer, less difficult minutes, not more and harder shifts - AllInForFlyers
First, Kimmo will be playing fewer minutes. I would assume around 16-17 minutes/night. Was Streit overwhelmed against the Rangers? Do I believe Hexy was totally against acquiring AMac and signing him to an extension? These are gonna be contributors on the blueline this season. Three more slots to fill, I need to see how those are filled to be either satisfied or wanting more.
I'm not going to totally blame two guys for the defensive issues of arguably the worst run franchise in professional sports.

I agree that he alone doesn't make us cup contenders, but allows us to grow our young guys while still be competitive. The only defenceman we have next year that is somewhat can handle 20+ minutes is Coburn. - HockeyDog
Well if your suggestion you've moved most of them, we'd have nobody to "grow" |

You're either drastically over valuing a 3rd round pick, or drastically under-rating Kulikov.
I'd think you were joking with me if I was Tallon and you offered that. - mochoson
I may up it to a 2nd rounder, but he's nowhere near a first round pick |

That's going a little far I think.. Sure the Phillies are terrible and the light at the end of the tunnel hasn't been spotted yet but the Flyers are still a good young team that just need a few holes plugged.
The eagles showed a lot of promise last year and seem like they might do some damage this year.
I don't really follow the Sixers but they have 2 high picks in what seems to be a fairly deep draft.
Things could be much darker in Philadelphia. Just be grateful you're not a Browns fan. - Roytastic

As of right now, the Flyers have those slots filled. I understand wanting to upgrade, but trading the best defenseman you have -- and Coburn is that,to me -- I don't see that as the path to take

Streit, Kimmo, and Coburn. The same 3 guys that averaged over 20 minutes this past season. |

I do, if it makes the team better. And I think it could, depending on the deal. |

Too soon to comment, the off-season just started & much of how the roster will look is unknown.
If a good deal is there to be made, yes I'd make it...........if not I continue with the plan of Hexy to draft & develop. |

Not a fan of his per say. The talent is there though. If his work ethic and focus is where it needs to be there are going to be a lot of team regretting passing on him.
I think him slipping has put a huge chip on his shoulder. |

You are probably correct Coburn will be back. Since he has been rumored in possible trades, it is merely speculating a d core without him. I just believe the three we have discussed are locks at this point in the offseason to be there on opening night. Coburn is close to a lock, the rest including the youngsters are really the great unknown at this point.

I just desperately don't want to trade just to trade...there are so many bad deals out there to be made.
Man. I can't even imagine the defense without Coburn eating those ridiculous matchups |

Not gonna happen. If they have to continue to play Kimmo over 20 a night we are in trouble. Coburn is a giving and Streit will hit 20 minutes if we have plenty og power play time. 5 on 5 will be horrible with just them 3 able to log the minutes. |

You don't know how happy I am the eagles rid themselves of Vick and desean. Especially desean.
I'd say get rid of lesean too. I can see him and chip having issues |

I disagree wholeheartedly. Flyers problems at 5 v 5 transcend just the defense. |

Vick and Jackson two of the biggest POS in a league with an abundance of them. |

I like Manziel, but even I know Mike Evans made him a more productive QB. Unfortunately, JF needed to go to a stable franchise to succeed. Good lord, he went to Cleveland.
- ravishingone
I don't think he'll be successful anywhere. Has nothing to do with his personality. He's greatest strengths are his greatest weaknesses. He's like Vick. He will try to do too much and freelance too often. He doesn't work through his progressions. His height forces him to take deeper drops in order to see over the Dline.
Lets not forget that he played behind Jake Matthews and Luke Joekel for a lot of his career. Those guys can neutralize edge rushers in college. His deep drops won't be as easy in the pros. Joe Thomas is a good tackle, but I'd still worry about that aspect. |
