You sold on Marcus Smith? - PLindbergh31
No. Thought it was a reach, but I understood why they did it. Just got really unlucky with the draft. They knew they needed a pass rusher badly too |

The Flyers' pipeline is drier than Betty White. - johndewar
Not the worst anymore, thanks mostly to Laughton and Ghost, but still really far behind the curve.
Whoever said the Caps system is the worst needs to give their head a shake... |

As of right now, the Flyers have those slots filled. I understand wanting to upgrade, but trading the best defenseman you have -- and Coburn is that,to me -- I don't see that as the path to take - AllInForFlyers
On the B.Schenn and Coburn for Perron and Klefbom edal I'd like another mid round pick, but Edmonton doesn't have much this year. Klefbom is a pretty darn good young player who should play this year in the NHL all year.
This seems a consensus:
A big and strong defenseman with very impressive leadership qualities and character. Klefbom plays a good two-way game and is fairly good defensively, while probably being capable to chip in more offensively than he has in the past. Reads the play very well and has good enough positioning. Very good skater with a fine passing game. |

I am ok with grabbing Phaneuf. I am not ok dealing Schenn at all. The only players I am willing to use in a deal for him are. Vinny, Grossman, Coburn, Laughton or Akeson. It is hard to say because if you make this deal with a combo of some of these players it feels like exactly what Toronto gave up to get him. Quantity over quality.
I would not give up Hartnell because Flyers are weak at LW already, he is still a 20 goal guy and 52 point guy making 4.7 mill compared to guys like Carter, Parise, Elias and M.Koivu who put up the same amount of points this season and make 5-7 mill per season which is a good deal. |

I do. This is our last chance to include him in a deal that could get us a 1st pairing defensemen. Two years left with a fair cap hit.
We can't sign him long term. The way I look at it, is we have our 2nd pairing signed long term in Stret + AMac. Schenn is your guy that anchors the third pair.
If we move him now and package him with B. Schenn, Laughton, Lecavlier, or Hartnell (whoever, really), we could realistically acquire a younger guy that could be here for the foreseeable future. - mochoson
I agree. I think Schenn and Coburn together could be a good starting point to get the Flyers the first overall and Quinton Howden.
Florida gets a top six centerman with potential and a top four d-man both young enough to stay with their core and the Flyers get a top nine forward with potential and probably a future top four d-man in Ekblad with the chance of being a top 2. Florida would also signal to all the free agents that they are ready to compete next year.
Yes, our defense would be worse next year (since I would send Ekblad back to juniors), but long term I think it would be a good move. There is no better year to risk our team handling losing significant pieces with such a good draft and some potential assets (i.e. Timonen) to trade at the deadline.
Then again, armchair GMing is very easy. |

I'm only okay with giving up Vinny for Phaneuf only because it's in the cards for Vinny to go at this point. I don't want Phaneuf because we just signed Timonen. |

Trading Coburn would be a mistake. Maybe nobody realizes it, but he's actually our fastest Defensemen. Not that's not a sign of how slow we are, he's really quite fast for man his size. Coburn goes through periods of time where he is a dominant shutdown guy, but when you put the pressure on him to score more, he loses what he does best. He's a legitamate #2. But he ain't an offensive force at all. And he's not a number one. We will get more out of the Kimmo contract if Coburn is playing with him. So unless you are bringing in someone to help right now, I'd doubt I'd see Coby moved.
Kimmo did not sign a hometown deal so he could get fed to the wolves while we nuture prospects. MacDonald can score and is a great 3-4 guy, but he does not have Coburn's size and speed. There are better options than Perron. We could just keep Brayden Schenn after all.
I also think Phaneuf is not what we want. If they want to trade for Vinny, I'd through in a prospect or 2. But not Brayden Schenn (though maybe Luke). In the end Edmonton will be desperate enough to throw up Nugent Hopkins for Phaneuf, and I would not try to match that. We need Secondary scoring.
I think these trades are interesting and I'd love Phaneuf on the Flyers, but the cost is too high, and we would be better served signing Brian Boyle or a host of Scoring LW's. Play our stable, but not amazing Defense and let our younger prospects develop. And hey, perhaps Luke Schenn isn't done developing either. He's only 25, that's still young for a Defensemen. |

For the most part, I agree. There is no real need for Phaneuf right now if at all. |

He's a name. Probably the most overrated defenseman in the league but a name. I like him. I just don't see a fit with kimmo signed |

I have interest without Timonen. With Timonen, I'm good.
One example of bringing Kimmo back and still trading for Phaneuf that seems like a bas idea to me is the Power Play. I think they should transition but I don't think Berube is changing up that top unit. So having Streit and Phaneuf on the second unit seems stupid to me. Especially because both Streit and Phaneuf strike me as more effective offensively then Timonen does. |

The Flyers do not have the worst pipline in hockey by a long shot. The Capitals have 1 legit future NHL player in their system IMO. - mochoson
The Caps moved one D guy almost straight up from the ECHL team in Reading (Patrick Wey) and I saw him being too stationary around the net he was defending, in one of the few Caps games I watched on the NHL package.
Talk about rushing guys up

He's not a real #1. He's a slower Coburn with more offense and a massive contract. |

I want nothing to with Dion. The Maplel Leaf fan base is praying they can dump him and his 7 yr, 7 million dollar contract. He is not a number 1 and he is just simply overrated
