I think youre overvaluing couturier
- JoeRussomanno

Probably. But it depends on the #1 defender and what else is included in the trade. For Drew Doughty? Sure I'd move him. For Dion Phaneuf? Not a chance.

Lol wait, nvm, Vinny isn't CBO-able.

Maybe - but I'd trade Vorachek before him. He's right behind G in my book of forward untouchables. But I'm not the GM.

I don't think they'd CBO him. They'd be able to get some minimal return for him if it came to that and they really wanted him gone.
- jmatchett383

Probably not, but you never know in the land of the Maple Leaf.

Still, if you could shed VL at the least and get some of DP's salary retained on the Leafs end, it doesnt look as bad big picture. Might be worth one of the draft picks Hexy was going to keep and a prospect for a "first pair" d which we have been trying to get for years. VL/pick/prospect.

Bob McK was reporting that BUF was willing to CBO other team's players for 1st-round picks.

Would you be willing to move #17 + #48 to BUF for #31 + #49 in the upcoming draft to have them CBO Vinny for us?
- Tomahawk

I do this or something similar in a heartbeat for Hartnell or Grossman

I would simply because phaneuf immediately makes this team head amd shoulders better. Couturier while still a promising young player is more replaceable.

I'd be very leery of trading more than VL straight-up for him. Hextall is (supposedly) trying to build through the draft, not trade picks and prospects for high-priced, long-term contracts.

I read that and wondered if the NHL would allow it. The Kovalchuk deal was "legal" under the CBA until the NHL just decided they could invoke some vague language about the "spirit of the CBA" to nix to contract and punish NJ. I think teams may think twice about trying to pull something like that

Couturier is arguably the top penalty killer in the league and one of the best defensive forwards in the league. He's signed at a low cap hit for 2 years and is coming off his best offensive season yet. I don't think he's all that replaceable.

I dunno... if it were possible, the utility of having $18M opened up for us over the next 4 seasons might exceed the marginal difference between pick #17 and pick #31 in this draft.

If the Flyers could have gotten 2 more goals in game 7 against the Rangers, do we think they'd have made it to the final this year?

Either way the team gets better if you trade him for phaneuf

I just don't think you need to deplete assets to trade him. I think he can be traded without hurting them.

I am curious what would come back from Oilers if Coburn was traded there? It would have to be younger pleyers coming back from what Hextall has said about getting younger and faster. WOuld Hartnell waive to go to EDM? COuld you move Hartnell and Coburn to Edm for prospects and picks. Hartnell seems like a veteran winger that could help EDM's youngs forwards. Just throwing out ideas.
