We would be out bid by 20 other teams - K-dizzle
No doubt. But it makes Stastny much less available.
Now, it's increasingly unlikely that Vanek signs with Minnesota, so he's going to be a vagabond. I wouldn't be surprised if NJ bids on him.
This is going to be a pretty exciting month... |

Lou will probably touch base, but someone will massively overpay for Vanek and Lou ain't about that. As for O'Reilly, the Avs have chose to bring him to club elected arbitration, so whether or not they trade him now/soonish or keep him, it appears he'll be in another sweater in the not too distant future |

I still think Hemmer can play and provide on a top line...but for him he has to be a support player with an excellent Center. I hope he gets another chance to play with a top flight C like Spezza again, but I have a feeling he will end up in Florida or Nashville. |

Here's what Michael Russo had to say:
Vanek will have good options in free agency, so is he really going to sign in Minnesota for two or three years? Hard to believe, especially after reportedly turning down a seven-year, $49 million deal with the Islanders. While that contract probably won’t be on the table with any team anymore, he certainly should still be able to get decent term of four or five years with some teams.
I'm not a huge fan of vanek after his playoff performance and blaming his coach for it, but if he's not getting stupid money then its hard to be against the move. First goal is to get back into the playoffs. Granted, Russo probably doesn't know what all 30 teams are planning, but its a good sign that Minnesota is starting to sour on him. |

Unless one side is souring on it(I assume from Minny because of the horrendous playoff run) it does make sense because the Wild have a poop load of cap space
Edit: what he said^ |

Wouldn't mind Hemsky. Depends on what he wants contract wise. I'd really like to get someone on the right side of 30 though (another reason I'm hoping Stastny makes it to UFA) |

3.33? I don't blame him.
LOTS of tweets from McKenzie today.
ANA looking at Spezza/Kesler
Boston's priority to re-sign Iginla
CBJ wants to trade Umberger (3yrs/4.5), but will buyout if necessary
COL shopping PA Parenteau (2yrs/4mil)
CAL talking contract with Cam- term more than $ is the issue.
WPG may be willing to trade anyone, including Kane
Markov asking 3yrs/6mil from Habs
Seems this is how Colorado wants to keep both Stastny AND Reilly. |

Todd Cordell: Targeting Ales Hemsky - Todd.Cordell
STOP THE INSANITY!!! We have enough 10 to 15 goal scorers that make between $4 and $5 million per year. When are we going to stop being a team of role players. We need a guy that can score 30 goals. Until we do that we will continue to fight for a 7th or 8th seed. |
|
|
|
In Hemsky's defense, he's been "guaranteed" to be traded at the deadline or in the offseason for what seems like 4 or 5 years.
You would check out and start taking some shifts off too.
For the Devils, I think he's a player you look at as a 2nd priority. After you get a feel for where you're at with O'Rielley, Callahan, Kesler, Richards, and whoever else is available that fits with the team's system.
Much like Alex Semin a few years ago, you like to have a player with that kind of talent but you shouldnt lose any sleep if it doesnt work out. Players like Semin and Hemsky are available every year.
Coincidentally, of course. |

Signing a bunch of underproductive 20G scorers just for the sake of signing someone isn't a good strategy.
And, no. I won't be the one complaining if they don't sign someone. I will however, be complaining if they do another round of Clowe, Brunner, Ryder instead of keeping Cap Space open for actual productive players.
Fact is NJ needs 30G scorers and there isn't any available.
Next year's offseason UFA crop could potentially be a lot better.
I don't trust Lou to do low-risk 1-2 yr deals. He always seems to have that one headscratcher deal that will handcuff the team.
Clowe is now a buyout candidate along with Salvador, Volchenkov, Zubrus, and Rutuu.
Let's not even mention the Zajac contract.
This is one time I'd like to see Lou sit tight, ship out Salvador & A-Trainwreck, let the kids get icetime to continue to develop & look forward not behind.
Some people actually want Brian Gionta back too, apparently.
Guys like Heatley, Stastny, Vrbata...they're not going to make this a playoff team. In my opinion.
Lou's already tried the goal scoring by committee with way too many bottom 6 FWs, hasn't worked. And Elias is more productive than Hemsky and Elias is at the downward trajectory of his career. Hemsky is crap.
Might as well aim for Gaborik if we're going to take a risk on an oft-injured player. At least we know he can show up for the postseason. |

Clowe can't be bought out because he was signed under the new CBA.
And he actually had a productive year aside from lingering concussion issues.
I've always thought it was funny that people call him "injury prone" these days. He played 70+ games a year for the Sharks all the time. He'll go one of two ways. There's a difference between "injury prone" and "concussion prone"
1. He'll get back to being healthy just like he was in SJ before the concussions.
2. Considering he's already had 3-4, he'll retire if the concussions continue and they'll be out from under the deal.
He's not a player that you need to be worried about.

Not for nothing, Zajac is probably going to be the next Captain. He had an outstanding season and showed a lot of leadership qualities. No coincidence that he was the second skater reporters wanted to talk to every night.
Of course you like him to be closer to 25 goals than 20, but the guy that played this past season hasn't been around the last 3 years. |
