If we could get the guy that just won a Cup with LA, then fine. But I doubt we will. That team, from the coach on down, function like a well-oiled machine, and everybody is on board. So when they brought him in, he was given a role within the system, and was basically forced to comply. Not sure the Flyers have that same structure. - jmatchett383
Love the last part. When you come to a team like that, the players police the locker room, and you play the right way. From the Coach on down, it's demanded of everyone and it shows. combine that with talent, and well you skate with the Cup twice in the last 3 years. Flyers need to get that structure and culture in the locker room. |

Bill didn't state that Schenn is a 3rd pair defenseman. Schenn has the same issue that pretty much the team has. Inconsistency. While I agree that Schenn's skillset as a player, is not going to improve. What can certainly change is his level of consistency. He has had stretches of games where he has been far more then a 3rd pair defenseman. When he moves his feet and is not caught stationary, or drifts to far from the play, he can be a very good defensman. If he brings his A game more consistently to the ice, the Flyers have themselves a solid top 4, 2nd pair defenseman. He could also be used as a physical compliment to a #1 at some point, if he finds that consistency. - MJL
I agree with this. Its not uncommon for young defenseman to battle inconsistency. Hell, Coburn is still inconsistent. Schenn's problem is that he has such drastic peaks and valleys. Sometimes, he looks like a stud defensive defenseman and other times he looks like he doesn't even belong on the ice.
I'm not asking him to be a top pairing guy on every night, but he needs to be more consistent than he's been. |

Question from the Pens' blog regarding offer sheets:
If you trade your compensation away (say a 3rd round pick in this year's draft) which prohibits you from submitting an offer sheet, are you able to trade to get that pick back and submit an offer sheet, or do you have to have retained the pick the entire time? It may not be very wise to do so, but just curious. |

Don't know. I do think you need to have YOUR pick in order to make the offer. You can't have another team's 3rd rounder. I see no reason why you couldn't make the offer after reacquiring your pick though. |

It worked for me in like NHL 12, but I highly doubt that equates to reality. That really is an interesting question.
It would be funny if Team A tried to offer sheet a player from Team B and they needed a draft pick they had sent to Team B in an earlier deal to complete the offer sheet. That'd be an awkward phone call. |

Wasn't it you that said a few months back that L. Schenn projects to be a top pair defensive defenseman? |

For some reason I feel like this isn't true. - PhillySportsGuy
Under more investigation it seems that it might not be. Even though it was Paul Stewart who originally linked to the story. |

Yeah, you can/have to get your own pick back to do the OS. |

why? the qualities that make him such a rampant douche actually serve to make him even more attractive to a decent percentage of the opposite gender. |

Colorado using arbitrage with RO'R seems likely to backfire.
I mean, if they want him, why not negotiate a deal?
Signing him for 1 year which may be less then his current salary seems likely to make him want to leave there as soon as he hits UFA.
The whole thing doesn't make sense. |
