People talk about Schenn being more along offensively, but Couturier had 7 fewer goals and only two fewer points, playing against far better competition in a shutdown role an with a lot less PP time.
I think if Couturier got the kind of useage Schenn got, he might be the one with 20 goals - Jsaquella
I agree. Another reason why I'd like to improve the two-way play of the 2nd and 4th lines.
It would be nice to give Couts more offensive opportunities and use him on the PP a bit more. I feel like Berube never used him on the PP because he was afraid of throwing out any other line after a failed PP. |

Still a bit surprised he didn't get the Smythe. He was dominant for two rounds and damned good for the next two |

He did get some PP time, but it was like 1:16 per game...Schenn was over 2 minutes. I had exact numbers other day, but I'm on my phone and it's a pain in the ass to look up the numbers on NHL's mobile site. |

Yeah. Those numbers are accurate. I feel like Couts minutes came at the end of a PP when Berube threw out the 3rd line with 10-15 seconds left. I don't recall him being a regular on the PP for any extended period of time. |

There was no part of the post, it was one general point. You basically cut a sentence in half & turned an example of the importance of puck support & stressing possession into an attack on Grossmann....and then went on to make the exact same point I was making in an attempt to disagree. - Jsaquella
Why bother? Seriously, it's the ONLY thing he has in life. He spends every waking moment on this site. Don't get roped into his little games he likes to play. It sad and pathetic, things you are not my good man. |

I guess ward just sticks out in my mind because he made a few game saving saves that he had no right making. |

A lot of people didn't like the rumor of B. Schenn and Coburn for Perron and (Klefbom or Marincin). I understand Coburn's value. Lets augment, in a big way, this deal for Philly.
Lecavalier and Coburn for
Perron, (Marincin or Klefbom) and pick #91.
Would you do it? |

Would you trade Voracek and Ghost/Morin for Sam Gagner, Andrew Ference and a 4th?
That's basically the trade you just proposed, flipped around... |

I agree. However, this is for those that won't part with Coburn. This deal equally hamstrings the defense, but leaves the club in a better position to satisfy the caveat:as long as a top Dman is acquired. I'm sure GM's go back and forth. I wanted to see if some posters would budge. |

I'm just wondering if Hexy can move some contracts out and take a run at potentially Nikitin. I figure it is going to cost somewhere around 4 yrs between $13-$16 million. I think there could be some real value in taking a run at him. He is pretty buried on depth chart for Columbus as #5 d-man. I would figure they don't want to spend close to $4 million/yr on him. |

They still need to add at least one defenseman the way I look at it. They could go with Timonen, Coburn, MacDonald, Streit, Grossmann & Schenn again as the top six, but that's really not appealing to me.
IMO, you have 1 legitimate top pair guy (Coburn) and he's more a 2/3 than a 1/2 guy. Timonen is arguably still a 2/3 and Streit is a 3/4 with right partner. To me Grossmann, MacDonald & Schenn are all 4/5 guys.
It's not a completely horrid defense, but it's definitely not a strong defense. Ideally, I'd like to move one of Schenn or Grossmann (preferably Grossmann due to age and injury issues) and bring in a more well wounded guy, like Mark Fayne, who can do more and might cost less money. Still leaves them with out a true number one guy, though.
But moving Coburn out, without another deal in hand, means a top six of Timonen, Streit, MacDonald, Grossmann, Schenn and a rookie(Klefbom, Marincin, Gostisbehere, Alt, Morin or Hagg)...That's not good. |

He's one of the UFAs on my list. Biggest concern is health. He's missed 43 games the last three seasons, but he's definitely a solid guy who has decent mobility. |

An example. I responded to an add today about a car. Add said 20K. Contacted the rep and he came back with 23K. Said sorry, his response, how do I get your business? My response, honor the original add excluding the fine print by giving me the difference on my trade-in. If the car or equivalent is there on June 30, done deal. Helps I don't need to do a deal, but saw a good entry point for negotiations. Of course this could fall through. |
